The game provides a nice soundtrack to a minimalist visual presentation.
Chasing upgrades and trying out different combinations go a great way to extending the life of the game, but that will likely mean a playtime of 2-3 hours instead of 20 minutes.
Randomness plays such an enormous role in the game that any given play is almost entirely up to whether the random spawning insta-killsread more you, or provides you with a 100+ kill combo. Parts are generally wildly out of 'balance', but with so little of the game being decided by loadout and player inputs it's mostly a matter of "Pick the parts you want, and play until the game gives you a score you're satisfied with."
A high gloss sheen, on an otherwise empty balloon.

The game is fun, the action is fast and the enemies are plenty. So why is this not five stars? Well, the menu controls are awkward and and the game menu seems to be bugged. It won't save my fully screen settings and the option color palette does absolutely nothing.
The gameplay itself is fun and addictive. Unfortunately it is also very repetitive there are no alternative level layoutsread more or something like that, so your Rauser is the only thing that can be altered, if you have unlocked the parts, that is.
My summary: If you are into arcade aerial combat shooters this is a must for you. Everybody else should try out the browser version Luftrauser first, which is a very stripped down version of this game.

This is not a pretentious game, you customize your ship, you launch, and you will die (to the tune of a kickass background track). While there is only one game mode, there is a surprising amount of depth. The customizations are not minor so flying “The Pig” (each customized ship has its own name) is completely different then flying “The Laser Knight”.read more
The challenges are a very welcome and non-intrusive addition to the game. I say non-intrusive because the game is not about the challenges per say (fulfilling challenges do give you more plane parts) its about the high score and beating it. While the controls in-game are spot on, the menu controls are a little weird (not bad, just inconsistent ie: pushing down in one screen will get you to the hanger while in another going to the hanger requires pushing to the right; small stuff like that)
This game is probably not for everyone but for those looking for an incredibly clean/addictive/hard high-score chasing arena game, 5 stars
