A Little Big Disappointment
Im not gonna lie, I barely stomached an hour of this game before I closed it. The Story has unfortunalty been changed to suit a 4 year olds 'bananas in pajamas' theme. Gone is the mystique of you character being put away for having premonitions of evil ensnaring the world, escaping back to your home before your love is taken away by the evil Funfrock. Instead you are greated with a new introduction, following your young sister to play a ball game before the realisation that Funfrock is changing the town. This intro is meant to work as a tutorial for the updated mechanics, while establishing a new motivation for the character. It ends up feeling disingenuous, specially since the sisters voice acting is way too exagerated, all while your dealing with the clunky mechanics that are not clearly explaned to you what any of the control inputs do. At one point, when i was asked to throw a ball at a hoop, I though the game had a bug. The ball was stuck and I was unable to collect it. Even after a reset, it still didnt alow me to collect it unless it fell on the ground. It through trial and error that I realised I could pick up another ball from the counter, even though the game does not inform you that you can. After this, you watch a painful cut scene explaining how your Love left to avoid the oppression, and you go to prison for trying to save your sister during her rebelious streak. Its then you realise how clunky the controls are. Combat is not as satisfy as the original, you can forget stealth, meaning that you will get shot up by the guards outside while getting to the trash collector. Running no longer has impact animation on walls, which may be great for some but I found it charming and rewarding. Even the use of magic feels weak and pointless. Though I appreciate the updated visuals, the removal and change to all the systems, all while keeping the enemies the same, seems pointless and the story changes are not a welcome addition what so ever.
