In the Shadow of the Original LBA

I have very mixed feelings. On one hand, it's a game, world, and story that deserved a new installment for a long time. Visually, it's very pleasant and strongly cartoonish, though it completely fails to recreate the atmosphere of the first LBA—the somber mood and color palette that conveyed the dire situation the characters faced. It reminds me more of the cheerful tone of LBA2. One of the stronger aspects is the music—modernized but retaining motifs from the original. However, here too, the sense of dread and grittiness is somewhat missing. A major point of criticism is the unnecessary changes to the story. Second—bugs! Bugs, bugs, bugs! Firstly, the Polish translation—it’s not bad; it’s atrocious and incomplete. There are also bugs where characters direct you to someone for information, but that person either doesn’t have it or is stuck performing a scripted action tied to a completed different goal, creating an inescapable loop. Similarly, there are broken dialogue lines: if you meet someone for the first time but happen to already have the item they’re supposed to ask for, the initial dialogue is skipped entirely. Speaking of faithfulness to the original—if Twinsen gets under fire, he might not be able to escape, easily getting stuck. The story changes didn’t address the original’s biggest flaw: loosely connected missions and nonsensical actions required to progress. For instance, a key location is never mentioned in dialogue, or a key is obtained from a random character with no hints. The lack of logic or guidance is frustrating—I mostly got through by recalling the original’s quirks. :( On a positive note, the new installment preserved the Easter eggs from LBA1, including dialogue-based ones—a detail deserving big respect. It’s the same great game in a modern version but lacks the original’s atmosphere, fails to address its most frustrating issues, and has the flaws I mentioned. Despite this, it was enjoyable and worth revisiting the planet Twinsun!

Great game, HORRIBLE Polish localization

As someone who grew up playing the original and has always admired the "French Touch" in video games, this project holds deep personal meaning for me. It's truly a Game of my Childhood and really important one to me. I grew up playing Little Big Adventure, and it’s one of my favorite childhood memories. Now I’m a dad to a baby girl, and I couldn't wait to share that joy with her one day, too but not in this version because the Polish Localization is abolutely HORRIBLE. The sheer number of errors would be astounding even in an amateur localization and here we're talking about a product I PAID for! Within the first five minutes, I ran into a whole SERIES of mistakes—some pretty major ones. Honestly, I didn’t like it at all. The style feels rushed and amateurish, which really takes away from the experience. I had to switch back to the English version just to enjoy the game the way it’s meant to be enjoyed. Just take a look at mistranslation of the dialogue between Twinsen and Pacati the fisherman that makes no sense in Polish version: TWINSEN: "Any luck, Pacati?" (as in have you caught any fish) - translated as "Udało ci się, Pacati?" (Did you made it, Pacati). PACATI: "Not as much as on Proxima Island!" - translated as "Jak i cała wyspa Proxima!" (As well as the entire island of Proxima!) There's TON of mistakes, errors and blunders like this in the game. This is absolutely inexcusable. Just pure amateur hour. The translators have no idea what they were doing. It's appartant there was zero QA done on this game. It’s a shame, because the remake itself is fantastic and brings back some many memories alive again.

A marvelous re-make of a beloved game.

I am a veteran and fan of both Ms-DOS Little Big Adventure games. I played through both games, LBA2 several times. When the news of the LBA remake broke I became extremely excited. I played the demo and then decided to pre-order. The re-imagining of the game turned out extremely well. It retains the third-person look, but but with revised controls. I really like the colorful, vibrant new world, the new locations and the expanded story. At first the look of the world itself, as well as Twinsen, Zoe, Luna and the inhabitants of the world, is a bit unusual, but you soon grow to like it. As I progress through the story and rediscover previously familiar locations I am simply amazed at how well the visual atmosphere has been created. Right from the start in the Bu Temple you can see that a lot of care has gone into the creation of the setting. The music remains the same, just a little reworked. I liked it. They've done a good job of making sure that the musical underplaying always fits the situation. I read in several places that the game was adapted to the "woke" ideology, but I didn't experience that. When I was playing, I didn't notice anything like that (I wasn't looking for it either...). I was simply amazed at how well and atmospherically the devs could recreate the world of Twinsun. Overall, I can say that the remake was well done. I liked it a lot. The new controls take a bit of getting used to, but it's not a very difficult one. 9.5 out of 10. If you were a fan of the old LBA, you'll love Twinsen's Quest.

nice but could have been better

TLDR: Overall fine but as a purist of the original game I have lots of nitpicking. >The art style sometimes is ok and other times loses the nice detail it a lot of the terrain. >The combat is overall vastly improved >The music feels less epic than the original. >The story changes overall seem interesting and link it better with the sequel. >The museum heist part is better than in the original as you can visit the museum while it is open before you take out the teleportation center >Why did so many male NPCs have to become female in the remake? >No desert horse >Smaller Temple of Bu dungeon. (I know it was brutal but in a good way) >Some of the darker themes of the original have been removed or nerfed. >Zoe is not wearing her dress from the original >The mecha penguin does not work on all the red clones. >There is no dramatic prophetic dream intro. I am still looking forward to the next game.

Nice remake

Having played the original LBA when I was a child, I was pleased to discover this remake. Overall, it's very good, especially considering the small size of the studio that worked on it. The art direction and the soundtrack are excellent, both modern and faithful to the charm of the original. The story has been largely preserved, with a few modern tweaks (Zoé the rebel) or additions that tie into LBA 2 (the astronomer who discovered a mysterious planet...). The only thing that slightly disappointed me was the gameplay. The controls have been modernized, which is nice and makes the game much easier to play. No need to switch modes anymore, and Twinsen can change direction while jumping. However, the enemies are still as limited as in the original game, which makes them very easy to defeat (especially when you unlock the additional bounces for the magic ball). The combat becomes rather uninteresting. I have fonder memories of LBA 2 on this point. On the other hand, there are a few odd sections that are strangely difficult due to the lack of precision with the ball (for example, destroying mutant eggs). Last small gripe: the default option in the main menu is "New Game" instead of "Continue"... I hope the team can continue to revive the franchise and do even better with the second one!
