Handwritten nostalgia

Journey back to the 90s and move through beautifully hand-drawn letters, as you follow the life of Sarah. Learn more about her friends, nerdy obsessions or why she has the most annoying sister ever.

Then go digital as Sarah grows older. Revel in the nostalgic pixel world of the early 2000s internet while navigating all the drama, anxiety and joys of teenagehood.

Shape your future

Watch Sarah grow up and make decisions that will change how her life will turn out as an adult (no pressure). Take revenge on your sister, play video games all day or fall in love. It’s all up to you.

Don’t like the outcome? Just go ahead and rewrite her story. (See? we told you, no pressure.)

Power of words

In a world made from paper and computers, words matter. So use them to change drawings that block your way, help friendly characters and interact with Sarah's friends.

Finding the right words is hard sometimes. Especially for shy people like Sarah. So help her by breaking them apart and creating new ones for her to use instead.

Playfully wholesome

Letters is a cozy, often funny, sometimes sad game about friendship, growing up and finding your way in life. Explore Sarah’s colorful world and use the power of words to change her life!

Or… just stack cats or something.

A Puntastic emotional (and cute) journey

Do you like puns, wordlplays, and word based puzzles? Letters might be for you, since its full of these and use them to tell an emotional "everyday" story about a girl growing up and her penpal. As the girl frows up, the technologies change with them even the games graphics, so its really an interesting journey also from a visual perspective. The gameplay resolves around finding the right words (inside letters, emails, websites or even spam), and use these words to change the livng letters, to let you proceed or to find the right answers to your friends and families questions. There is a hint system for people like me, helping you to find the words, and finding the correct solution often is not too hard, but even playing around with wrong solutions can be fun, just to find out how characters react or how images changes. Bring the word "swiss" to a tower and it suddenly changes appearance and can pronounce "Chuchichästli". Exploring these "easter eggs" or just interactions is realy a lot of fun. Sometimes the movement can feel a bit repetive, but there is the nice feature of the "mouse curser" which helps you as a shortcut later, to lose less time. The story is not too long, but you can influence it, your choices matter if you want (and even change some future puzzles and visuals!), so you have at least a good reason to play it at least twice to see all the changes. The genre of the story would be "Slice of Life", including the sad parts, some of us will experience, but it shows it for a, at least for me, interesting perspective. A swiss girl growing up, not a japanese highschooler, not an american teenager, as we all have seen enough. I really enjoyed it and think others do as well, if you like interactive stories, have a good enough english and are fine with reading in games.

Honestly Kinda Rubs Me the Wrong Way...

Game shares A LOT in common with Lost Words: Beyond the Page; if you liked one game, you'll probably like the other. This game would’ve benefited GREATLY from having a Point-and-Click-and-Drag interface, as opposed to having a Platforming interface; it was BEYOND TEDIOUS, having to grab a word at the BOTTOM of the page, then carry it to the TOP of the page - or vice-versa - jumping SINGLE LINE-BY-LINE as I went. The platforming added NOTHING to the game, aside from ringing up the time meter, exacerbating tasks that could’ve been accomplished in seconds with a P&C&D interface. The Choose-Your-Own-Adventure aspect of the game is pretty okay; Example: You can make Sarah become a game designer, a comic book illustrator, or an artist; there are several little choices you can make, several fill-in-the-blank moments, that’ll change up little cosmetic details within the game and story. NOT A SPOILER: The plot involves the divorce of the parent characters, and the resulting depression they go through (almost not worth it, is it?) The Content Warning for this precedes the title screen of the game; would be nice if the people you’re trying to “protect” KNEW about this BEFORE buying the game…! I like how the script sympathizes with the father/husband character and being overworked, and calls out the mother/wife character for being a new age hippie who believes in fairies and is addicted to self-help / “empowerment” seminars… Otherwise, the script still comes off sounding feminist, left-wing, and like it was written by the same kind of people who wrote games like Life Is Strange (That age-old complaint about female superheroes wearing high heels...) Despite all this, I’m still willing to the give the game a “good” rating; it fulfills the promises it makes, and accomplished what it set out to do; I’m only docking a star as a “Buyer Beware” to those who’d think they’d be interested in this, but would actually be turned off by some of the content.

I love games with clever gameplay ideas like these! The puzzles using letter mechanic could be a little more creative but thanks to short lenght of the game it doesn't get boring. Cool platformer that is worth your time.
