Boot up your Z5 Powerlance and dial into Last Call BBS, the last game from Zachtronics!

The Barkeep’s loaded up his retro computer with a full set of puzzle games for you to download and play. No need to worry about copy protection, they’re all fully cracked and ready to enjoy!

Includes eight full games:

  • 20th Century Food Court: Design factories to produce food just like they did over 700 years ago in the 20th century. Keep your costs low and your machines running fast!
  • STEED FORCE Hobby Studio: Assemble robot models based on the anime smash hit Steed Force right on your computer. No sandpaper required!
  • X’BPGH: The Forbidden Path: Enter a cursed world and create bizarre flesh sculptures in exchange for eternal life. The master is pleased… but can you trust him?
  • Sawayama Solitaire: It wouldn’t be a Zachtronics release without a brand-new solitaire game. This time it’s a fresh take on Klondike, the “classic” solitaire variant.
  • Dungeons & Diagrams: Try your hand at these beguiling tile-based logic puzzles. Can you map out the dungeons and steal all the treasure?
  • ChipWizard™ Professional: Build integrated circuits using wires, transistors, and capacitors. Wait a second, is this a game or a CAD program?
  • HACK*MATCH: The tile-matching minigame from EXAPUNKS, completely remastered with a single player campaign and local head-to-head multiplayer.
  • Kabufuda Solitaire: Create matching sets of Japanese kabufuda cards in this retro-demake of the challenging original solitaire game that debuted in Eliza.

Plus:

  • Travel back to a time when personal computers were new and exciting, with high-resolution pixel art and an FM-infused soundtrack!
  • Learn the story behind Last Call's mysterious sysop, The Barkeep, as well as the developers of the games and legendary 90s PC manufacturer, Sawayama Corporation.

Zachtronics has done it again!

Last Call BBS is a nostalgic love letter to the early days of home computers. With a stylish MSX-inspired computer, BBS servers, warez, and cracktros, this game has it all. The story and history of the in-game world is revealed to you by short notes as you complete the minigames, often laced with some metaphorical details you might catch if you're familiar with the real world history and culture of early home computing. Last Call BBS can be a relaxing game too, and isn't afraid to take things slowly. When you first start the game, only Solitaire is installed. To get more games, you must dial into the in-game BBS and download some 'warez'. While the downloads don't take hours like they would have back in the day, it does still take a good minute or two. The in-game BBS server has a 'download quota' too, so after downloading a game, it kicks you off for at least 15-minutes before you can dial in again. So start your download, make yourself a drink while you wait, relax, and enjoy the 'new' game of your choice! All the minigames are so fun it's hard to pick a favorite! And don't be intimidated by ChipWizard either! Once you get the hang of how the transistors work (read the short in-game manual), it's actually not that hard.

Last Call for Zach

I for one enjoyed this new chapter. It is somewhat different than previous Zachgames I've played (I've played them all). I really liked the atmosphere of this game and took me back to the 90s when All you could do was play another round of solitaire while you waited for the game you wanted to download. This may not be for everyone but checked a lot of boxes in my column (I'm 44). One quibble I had was that on the steam version (Here is where I curse their name and spit) there are achievements whereas here there are none. Oh well, I wish there were here too, but I'll just do all the things without the meaningless automatic fulfillment that somehow gives us an endorphin boost.

Immersive experience, great puzzles

It's an immersive experience, and the sound and visuals really make you feel like you're using a classic personal computer for the first time. The puzzles games are great, as per Zachtronics' usual high standards. And there are a few weird artsy games thrown in, like you'd see in shareware or freeware distributed in that time period. That having been said, most of my time has been spent playing the solitaire game.

good puzzles

Several Zachtronics games in one, wrapped in a nostalgic sadness. Mainly I've been completely hooked on Dungeons & Diagrams, what you'd get if a Picross derivative ate a tiled level generation algorithm.

A bunch of mini-games that didn't click

This is a bunch of mini-games in the style of early 90's games and as a collection, it just didn't click with me. The mini-games are bound together with an overarching story that's revealed to you through short "memopad" entries. I played this developer's earlier game, TIS-100, and enjoyed it thoroughly. But this one has failed to grab my attention. The mini-games are good, but not great, and that's what hurts this more than anything. For example, there's a kitchen simulator, which is kind of fun, but it's got a steep learning curve and no real story inside of the mini-game itself. If you want a fully-fleshed out version, you should be playing Automachef instead. The same is true for most of the mini-games; there are full games on GOG that do a better job. In any case, I don't regret having bought it and I look forward to this developer's next game, but this one wasn't for me.
