Iron Harvest Deluxe Edition

The story of the campaign and the setting is very interesting in my opinion. Sad that even with two expansions, they didn't finish the story. The campaign missions are frustrating for the most part. With the help of the developers and their magic scripts, the AI cheats. For example, they put scripts in some missions which spawn enemy units. So, if you manage to destroy enemy bases in vain hope that it will make the mission easier for you, it won't help. I was thankful for the trainers for this game. Luckily, the skirmish is good. There, the AI is doesn't cheat. It entertained me for months, even though there isn't a map generator and I repeated the maps many times. The game-play strongly resembles of Company of Heroes. Base building is very quick, since there are maybe two buildings for unit production. The rest are defensive structures. There is no resource harvesting. You just occupy zones which automatically provides you with victory points(if you play that mode), iron and oil. I miss a strategy game which focuses more on base building and gathering resources, like old Age of Empires. I bought the Deluxe Edition back when it was released to support the developers and save money. I believed that getting all the DLCs this way would be cheaper than buying them one by one later. And it is. However, if I remember correctly, they announced three DLCs to be released back then. Only two were released. When I asked about this in a comment on their FB status, which I think was about releasing Operation Eagle, they just silently removed my comment, without any feedback. Besides companies releasing unfinished and buggy games, treating customers badly, turning off features which we payed for, this was the last straw for me. I told myself that I will spend my money in a better way.

This game is only for hardcore RTS fans. All other players should stay faaaaar away. Skirmishes are fun... for a while. The campaign is a complete disaster. The missions are repetitive and filled with GOTCHA moments causing you to lose after 45 - 60 min. The Coop campaign is underwhelming. You just play the regular campaign, but you and your mate share controll of ALL units and ressources. All in all the game is not bad it is just really disappointing

Would be 4 star, but one thing is extremely annoying: You have infantry with sniper capability: One shot with more range. but then your infantry starts to run towards the enemy, right into their range of fire instead of staying put. Suicidal running towards the defense tower applies to other infantry as well, not only snipers. Another scene: A heavy machine gun is moving close, you order your units to run away - but no, they lay on the ground and crawl away, while the cannon from the back shoots them all down. And since the cannon moves faster than your crawling men you can forget about them - they are toast due to their stupidness. So use F5 a lot. A LOT! Be prepared to constantly call back your stupid men from being so suicidal. Once you get used to it, it's clearly a 4 star game: Nice maps, nice GFX and even tactical possibilities to solve the situations in various different ways. Most missions can be solved without losing a single machine. To be honest: Up to now I could solve ALL mission without losing a single unit (except for hard scripted losses) - but I've not finished all single player missions yet. @gog: When will we be able to update a review? For example to up the rating when bugs were fixed, or to correct typos? Would improve experience and sale!

The game comes with Unity Analytics and has it enabled by default. The developers are German, so they know that this is illegal in EU. The game also forces you to accept an additional EULA from Koch Media which also does not comply to GOG rules. Additionally the game seems to be developed for online-play and makes no secret about that it wants you to create an online account for that. I consider such things as intended fraud. --> Refunded within a day, 10 minutes after starting it for the first time.
