You are Groove Champion, auto-vigilante. Your agenda: payback for your dead sister. Your weapon: A 425-horsepower '72 Picard Piranha with two 50-caliber machine guns on the roof and a flamethrower on the side. You're one mean dude in an even meaner ride.

They've messed with the wrong Champion.

Awesome Game but Not Tested Properly!

Posted on 2010-02-23 17:08:37 byevilguy12's avatarevilguy12:

This game is THE car combat game. For anyone who has played Twisted Metal this game is even better. It has a really awesome gameplay, a great soundtrack and a groovy plot. However this game is not properly compatible with modern systems! There are tons of bugs which the community has had to fix! This wasn't really what I hoped from GoG and seriously damages their reputation forread more games that work on modern PC's. I was considering gifting this game to my friends but I can't really give them a game in this state. The game is easily 5 stars but minus 3 stars for the trouble trying to get the game to work properly! :P

One of the Greatest PC Games of all time

Posted on 2010-02-18 07:39:56 byroryok's avatarroryok:

Although it never achieved the same huge success as some of the other PC greats, Interstate 76 was a hugely original game when it launched in 1997. It took the furious road battles of the Mad Max movies and re-imagined them in an alternate history america of the 1970s. It remains today the most definitive example of car combat in video games - often copied but never yet more Every aspect of the game draws you into the universe. The maps for each mission are unique, each scribbled on napkins or scrap paper or diner menus. The cinematics use the same models as the engine, to keep continuity. The character models themselves are elegantly simple. The voice acting is top notch. The soundtrack is original funk written specially for the game and recorded in a studio - it far surpassed the mostly electronic soundtracks of the time. Everything about the game speaks of commitment to detail, of a huge amount of time and effort invested by a small team to create something wonderful.

Style, Gameplay, Story, Characters, Music and Muscle Cars

Posted on 2010-02-18 06:46:00 bysoulgrindr's avatarsoulgrindr:

This isn't your average game. It's a Mad Max meets 70's funk car combat sim.
Sim is an important word, this isn't Carmageddon or Twisted Metal, it's more like Mechwarrior or Tie Fighter, with keys for targeting different enemies, different camera viewpoints, the option to choose your weapon and armour loadouts (and balance the weight) and the need to protect the damaged areasread more of your car.
The story it great. Presented as a 70s tv show, it still has great characters and voice acting, and is set in a credible world. The music rocks.
The world is mostly barren Arizona deserts, canyons and abandoned gas stations, but the environments are realistically modelled and you can have fun just cruising around and trying to make a few of the insane jumps.
Like many space-combat sims of the time, the missions can sometimes be very hard, and you have to know where you need to be to intercept the incoming raiders, but the missions are fair. The only real flaw is that the AI drivers sometimes get caught up on the landscape.
Other than that, this is one of my all time favourite games, and I hope everyone else has as much fun with it as I did.
(Joystick recommened, but probably not essential).
