Highrisers

I love this game, but I can't spend more than a couple hours with it. The game crashes for seemingly insignificant button clicks and RAM limitations. The soundtrack is great, but it pauses every time an interaction screen appears, likely because all the interaction screens are children of the 'pause' feature. This game just crashes too much. It COULD just be my drivers, platform, etc, but this is still very lowball, in my opinion. The game needs professional optimization... Gameplay wise, it would probably be easier to have two controllable characters instead of four, or at least give a choice. It can be really tough to issue orders to all four survivors at the same time. An auto-loot feature is sorely missing. From what I can tell the developers are still actively working on the title. Really hope that's the case, because the only way this game could be successful is with more hard work and market exposure.

For some reason the game feels very old-school. Controls are janky, though mostly in an endearing way. Those of you who like jank might know what I mean. The game actually trusts you to figure things out, even the tutorial doesn't tell you exactly what to do. While figuring out what to do is not difficult, I was surprised that not every action you have to take is pointed out in excrutiating detail. It just covers the absolute basics as well, so you still have to learn the game yourself for the most part. Just looting everything is pointless and even counter-productive, because you will have so much clutter on the ground, that it becomes difficult to manage your resources. You actually have to be somewhat strategic about resource acquisition. Very contrary to the contempary 'grab everything' philosphy. There isn't really any story to speak of, at least so far. It's old-school in that regard as well. It's about the game, not about telling a terribly paced 'epic' story. Again, surprisingly refreshing. The game obviously isn't perfect, but it has soul. Something that is sorely lacking even in most indie titles these days. Most surprising of all, it is a German production, sponsored by the state. (Yes, I was surprised by a lot of things)

This game could have been a gem. Instead it has been abandoned by the developers. It is full of unfinished features. One example is you cannot produce diesel (which is a crucial resource in the game) even though you unlock the recipe.

Not much to say other than the visuals are average, sound is average, no real story and the gameplay has very little to offer. There really is no depth here as everything just seems slapped together with no defined purpose behind it. There are plenty of better survival adventure games out there.
