Catchy in the beginning
I was looking forward to playing this game. I really enjoyed how it started, but I don't think I will finish it. Pros: - Very easy to learn - It's a lot of fun in the beginning - It provides you with a decent challenge. Especially in the higher difficulty settings, you need to be careful moving your units around and scouting ahead or you'll lose your units in the blink of an eye. - Secondary objectives add extra tension, typically forcing you to spread your army thin to succeed. Cons: - The AI is really passive. It won't react to you unless you're in its line of fire. If it doesn't see you, it will happily stay put under your artillery fire until it just dies. - Typical primary objectives invovle capturing this and that checkpoint. Sometimes, once you capture all of them, some scripted event happens, e.g. the enemy launches a counter-offensive. But said events don't feel polished. In one scenario, after taking the last checkpoint in a village, suddenly five or six enemy tanks spawn in your flank. During your turn, one moment there is an empty field in LoS of your army, now there is a tank about to wipe out your exposed units, neglecting any tactical planning on your part up to that point. I feel this is poorly executed and kills immersion. All in all, I enjoyed playing maybe six or seven hours, and I haven't even started the last two campaigns yet. But the cons kill the immersion and I don't feel like investing more time in finishing the game. Maybe I'll return to it in the future and play a little longer. Recommended if you are in for a rather casual strategy game and your expectations are not too high.
