An excellent rebirth of an old classic.
The collection of games on offer here is outstanding, download, hit launch, and away you go. I've been playing for a few hours with no issues. The game runs well, but how does it play? Like many games of it's generation, Great Naval Battles provides straightforward controls and a level of strategy and simulation that is just not seen in todays gaming market. There's the possibility of playing entire theatre wide campaigns where you're in control of the strategy of the entire navy and taking command of tasjk forces, and even individual ship stations when battles occur. There are historical scenarios and operations that let you play some famous battles for when you don't want to get stuck into a big campaign. So far in my campaign (North Atlantic, playing as Germany) I have sent out task forces into the north atlantic, narrowly avoided being attacked by a British hunter force, sunk merchant ships, sent two British cruisers to the bottom of the ocean, and fended off attacks by Fairey Swordfish torpedo planes on my way back to Germany! I can't wait to continue the campaign, let alone explore what else the games included in this package have to offer. If you're at all interested in WW2 naval warfare and you're wqilling to read a couple of pages of the manual (there are over 200 pages for the manual of the north atlantic game, but you can work out the controls with a bit of trial and error, so don't be put off by that) then you should definitely consider giving this a go!
