You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

Go Home Again.
  • A Personal Story: created by veterans of the BioShock series and the writer behind Minerva's Den, Gone Home offers the rich, nuanced details of one family's struggles to deal with uncertainty, heartache, and change.
  • An Immersive Place: return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience.
  • No Combat, No Puzzles: Gone Home is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated. This house wants you to explore it.
  • Fully Interactive Investigation: discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore.

Flat and short

Honestly, I cannot understand all the good reviews. The story is not very deep, indeed there is basically one and only one revelation which already reveals itself after about a third of the game. And just when you think the game starts, it ends. Really, I thought it was the introduction, but then the game was over. All in all no more than 2 hours and 20 minutes including the investigation of all rooms and every single item.

Out standards have fallen

I purchased this game with the expectation of a short, 2 to 3 hour experience, held together with a good story that I would uncover myself, and plenty of 90's nostalgia items to play with as I explored the house and discovered interesting things about the family that lives there. What I got was a 60 minute tour of a boring house, in which I got to pick up some items, while the story was narrated by a voice-over. I can see how some people would be moved by the story, but it really has no depth to it. I definitely wouldn't recommend buying this for over $5.

Nothing special, really

As one who generally likes relaxing in a walking simulator from time to time, I found Gone Home to be rather overrated. The exploration of the house and the 90's ambiance may be interesting for some, but the story is too bland to be interesting. Can't be compared with Firewatch or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Barely passable in retrospect

This game is hit or miss. For me, it was a big miss. The game starts out all exciting, with a mystery feel to it. Maybe even a hint of horror in there! The game keeps you massively in suspense, and you do all of this cool detective work - but it is just all totally in vain. Once you reach the end of the story, the mystery collapses upon itself, and leaves the realization (at least to the critical thinker), that the entire story was built as an illusion to keep you going, while forcing a ridiculous teen-age love-story down your throat and it turns out to be nothing more than that. Mild Spoilers ahead! I realize now, that the game is basically just your character's sister coming out of the closet in the most awkward fashion, and your parents being out of town for some reason I can't even recall, leaving you to hunt down clues for 1-2 hours. I mean, seriously, watch a let's play instead.

So much wasted potential!

I really wanted to like Gone Home. I though it was intriguing and interesting. It is very much a game that to me feels like an interesting take on the adventure game genre. My problem with the game was with the story and particularly with how it ended. I just felt that the actions of your sister in the game were selfish, misguided, immature, and unrealistic. I also felt that the relationship the sister was in was also immature and unhealthy. The ending just left a bad taste in my mouth, which is sad because I really did think the game was interesting but the ending just killed it for me. It had so much potential that I felt was wasted.
