Description
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Rise of the Owlverlord is a blistering platformer with morphing worlds, featuring seven brand new levels, a new boss and new gripping tracks from Chris Hülsbeck and Machinae Supremacy!

Dash through tricky levels and transform the whole world at will in this fast-paced platformer. Rise of the Owlverlord combines graphics that pack a visual punch and tight controls with the challenge of retro era platforming. Fluidly morph between two dynamically different dream worlds to solve puzzles and combat grueling enemies and bosses. You’ll have to intertwine perky Giana's twirling jump with punky Giana's hammering dash attack to survive her dual nightmare.
  • Change Giana's personality to unlock her unique abilities - you'll need to control both sides to survive her dreams! As Giana changes, so does the world around her.
  • Giana’s dreamworlds leap off the screen with gorgeous 3D graphics that morph before your eyes.
  • 7 rich levels across several distinct worlds, each transforming into the two contrasting dreamworlds. Collecting gems and finding secret locations requires strategy and interchanging the two worlds.
  • The remixed mode is a lot easier to survive than its standard mode. The “easy” difficulty for Giana should roughly correspond to the “normal” difficulty for casual platformer games. Hardcore and Über Hardcore modes also await players who are full masters of the game and quite possibly insane.

Giana Sisters: The Lost Levels

When I first found out about Owlverlord I was wondering if it it's an Expansion or a Sequel. Now I still don't know, it's just both and neither at the same time! In terms of content it fits the definition of Expansion more, but I like that you can just buy it separately if you want to skip out on Twisted Dreams. The game difficulty was defaulting to Hard Mode and it's the difficulty that unlocks all the other extra modes, so my review is based on my experiences of playing through it on hard. I was expecting for the game to be easier, but I was surprised that difficulty-wise the game starts where Twisted Dreams left off! The physics and hitboxes are as wonky as they were in Twisted Dreams. However, the level design has improved significiantly. They're a lot more creatively laid out and don't feel repetetive and strictly segmented anymore. Every element is put in new and exciting combinations. Like I said, the difficulty escalates quickly and you'll be forced to adapt to advanced techniques quickly. The game tries to bring newcomers up to speed with tutorial text clutter, but as I see it, it does so sloppily. It's one of those games that are short but difficult. In a way it squeezes Twisted Dreams' three worlds into just one. The graphics are as pretty as they ever were, but are still strangely taxating to my PC. At least on the the few moments the frame rate suffers it never drops below 30. The new level art and themes with the airships and all are also appreciated. The soundtrack is also fantastic still and the new music is a delight to listen to. To sum it all up, Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord is alright and does a lot of things better than befor, but didn't change anything in its questionable physics. If you played through Twisted Dreams and still want more, this game is recommended. Twisted Dreams and Owlverlord together with the holiday levels has a little over 30 levels. If I got to beat them all, then the games must've done something right!

Good times!

I really enjoyed this game. The game is built around the mechanic of swapping between 2 versions of the world. "Punk" Giana uses a dash in the cutesy version while "Cute" Giana can spin-float through the "scary" version. The swap animations for the background are pretty nifty. There are a few very minor glitches but nothing that gets in the way of the fun. Katie Leigh (Voice Actor for Honker Muddlefoot on Darkwing Duck and Connie Kendall on Adventures in Odyssey among many others) voiced Giana. It's all incidentals like "oof!" and "Whoa!".

If you have to choose, buy this one

Honestly, one third's worth of the first game for one third of the price, I think that's perfectly fine. I wanted to say that they toned down the difficulty a little, but after a while I realized that they just renamed the modes, and the old Easy is the new Normal and the old Normal is the new Hard. In any case, the game is as enjoyable and fun as the original, and the music's great as well. It just doesn't have as many frustrating parts as the previous game, even the boss fight was manageable. Because the game is standalone and still gives you the full experience, if you only want to try the franchise, I honestly think it's fine to try this one first, as it's cheaper, quicker, and less frustrating.

Wow!!

Having played & been a huuuge fan of the previous Gaina game, I was looking forward to this but was wary. As this firm has now proven over & over, they excel at brilliant game play. The levels in Owlverlord are HUUUUGE, compared to previous games & combined with the excellent Machinae Supremecy audio this game tops my charts & then some!!
