Not QUITE the game I remember

The good... this looks exactly as I remember it, and plays the same as well. It's a fun, albeit not DEEP, "time waster" type game. The bad? There are moments that this game, which runs perfectly smoothly on my current machine (and all prior ones) in the originally-released form, now "stutters" in the "updated" form. No doubt there will be patches forthcoming to fix that issue. And... there seem to be only a subset of the original playable characters. I always played as a "logical, smooth, calm, robot." It's more "my thing." But the version I just installed and played, has only three playable characters... a belching biker type, a cybernetic "she-bitch," and a "surfer dude" type. NONE of which are what I played... from the outset... on the original PC version of the game. I get the impression that these are considered "unlockable" characters now, but... I played this robotic character all the way through, every single level, and NEVER played any of the others. So, it's a bit odd to not have the option to do so in the "remastered" version. Maybe this is based upon a console version, rather than the PC version? In any case, the two "bads" are things which I hope will be corrected in a future update. But for now... they're a bit disappointing.

A good game, killed by time limts

This game could have been a great Descent clone. The graphics are nice (for its time), the controls are good, but some levels have time limits. So you rush through the game, not really enjoying any of the things I mentioned and try to survive. I can live with a higher difficulty, if I have the time to plan my assaults, but here, that's impossible. I really wanted to love the game, but you should better buy Overload instead!

A Classic Returns. Finally!

I played this game on N64 when it came out in '98 for endless hours both in Single Player and Multiplayer Split Screen with friends. I have also completed the game on PC a couple of years later. This game will always have a big place in my heart. It may be called a descent clone, but it had always had a lot more appeal and finesse to it than descent. This is, at its core, an arena FPS in 360°. This is quake, on hoverbikes. It has insane movement capabilities. Weapon types that are very situational. The game had stunning and still nicely retro-looking graphics that set a new bar back in the day. The soundtrack is godlike and I have listened to it on a daily basis. I love this game and I hope for a sequel after all this time, now is the best time for it, with this remaster being released.

Good game

A prettier but "dumber" Descent. Still fun nevertheless. If you don't own Descent yet, get both them instead and use dxx rebirth engine. Also if you might want to check Project X, an open source Forsaken engine port. If it's something that interest you then you want to get this for the extra bells and whistle, probably more modern oriented changes and such. For me, I'm sorry Nightdive, even though I'm a big fan of your classic games $19.99 is a bit steep for a game that is almost 2 decades old. If you do something like System Shock remastered on DOS games again (windows native port/no dosbox, enhanced resolution, enhanced controls) I'd buy them instead. I own both Turok and both System Shock games on Steam.

Fun multi-player experience

The single-player experience was alright, nothing fantastic. But the multi-player part - Excellent! Spent many a day with the boys at our LAN-parties duking it out, and no thrill was greater than being in a frantic shoot-out against one mate when you both suddenly hear the unmistakable *thewb* sound of a Titan being launched nearby. Skill and luck saved your butt before the super-heavy missile impacted on a surface and split into a multitude of insta-kill rockets flying every which way (I once accomplished whipping my craft around towards a tunnel while hitting the nitro booster only to fly dead smack into the Titan.) What was both a source of great frustration and an extra layer of fun was that each weapon, once picked up, wouldn't respawn for other players to enjoy. You either had to kill the player with the weapon(s) or use the highly maneuverable Scatter Missile to rid them of their arsenal.
