Description
Evoland 2 Deluxe Edition includes the main game, the soundtrack, and the artbook.

Evoland 2 is the spiritual successor to the original Evoland with its graphics style changing as you travel through time, and it’s gameplay evolving as you move along the storyline. It is also a much bigger game and a classic RPG at heart, with a complex scenario based on time travel, dozens of characters with their own backgrounds and ambitions, and vastly different gameplay styles that are linked to the story and the player’s actions.
  • A true RPG with a wide and rich world
  • A tribute to the video games history, with its graphics evolving through the player's progression
  • Different gameplays (including shoot'em up, beat'em all, platforming, tactical, versus fighting and many more!)
  • Numerous references to geek culture
  • The intriguing scenario based on time travel

More than a simple hommage to past ages

This game is a gem and should be played by anyone who likes videogames and can get behind the colourful and cartoony artstyle. I will try to expain why: The Story: You wake up in a strangers hut with no memories of how you came there. So far so usual. The story quickly begins to flesh out however into an intriguing tale about time travel and paralel dimensions. It does this deliberately in a way that is very smartly interwoven with the gameplay. But even beyod this its a genuinly solid story with heartwarming moments and drama that will have you hooked. This game also sports an unique kind of humor which im personally very fond of. Don't think i will ever forget the moment when i first found gravity. The gameplay: This is where the game truely shines. The game plays in different timeszones and as you travel through time and space the art and gameplay also changes. From 8 bit sprites to 3d animated scenes. And different levels witin these times also change the gameplay. The game plays like a zelda-esque hack n slash with puzzles most of the time but there are also many passages that take you to the machanics of other games. Here are a few examples: Guitar Hero, Candy Crush, Bomberman, Megaman, Bullet hell, Beat em up, platformer, Final fantasy style turn based, and Fire Emblem like strategy. There is even a hearthstone like collectible card game in the game. Most of these levels are also suprisingly fleshed out. Like the fire emblem strategy stage sports recruiting units, multiple levels and ways you can go, and different approaches you can take to enter the battle and various special moves for your characters. No matter what genre you like to play there is something for everybody here and the reason why i think this is such a great game. Sound: Its melodic and reminiscent of older games. Specificly chrono trigger, the legend of zelda, secret of mana and final fantasy come to mind. Thats a very good thing in a book. All i can say is that the music always fit the situation of the game very well and had many memorable tunes i think its well worth the collectors edition for the added soundtrack alone. Graphics: Beatuifull in pretty much every aspect. You can say that the 3d grapics look kinda stiff and rubbery but the 2d sprites look great. Also once gain its pretty sweet that the gaphics are reflective of the story and the gameplay. Thank you for reading :)

Chrono Trigger 2.0 - 4.5/5

Chrono Trigger story, Zelda ALTTP and Mega Man gameplay, and homage to many gaming icons. These fans - buy it! Everyone else - wait for a sale. Don't need to play Evoland 1 before this. This and Legendary bundle go on sale a lot. This version has more goodies than Legendary and options are less buggy. -- [Story] Wish you could relive Chrono Trigger story the first time again? This is 90% there - mysteries and time travel to unravel. It takes a few hours to get the plot going, but by the end, you'll love it. [Gameplay] This game is a love letter to many game genres. It plays like Zelda ALTTP and platformer 70% of the time. Most of the gameplay and the puzzles felt challenging. The other 30%, you play a variety of genres. They're a little less refined. If you get stuck during these parts, you can always reduce the difficulty in the options and revert back after. There's also a fun card minigame with NPCs if you need a break. I wish there was a better hub location to quickly swap between different times like CT's End of Time instead of going back and forth to Cursed Isle, but you won't get this feature until endgame. [Graphics] Everything was charming, especially the sprite artwork. [Audio] Music was great. [PC Requirements] Anything can run this game. [Bugs] Minor typos. In past Genova for the maid job, don't talk to blonde woman after she tells you to start rumours since you only get 10 gold and have to wait out timer to sleep at inn. Minigame card faces can disappear, just restart. [Game Time] I'd say 20 hours for main story. And another 10 hours to complete everything else. Took me 30 hours to 100% the game. [Novelty] I appreciated playing through GB, NES, SNES, and NDS 3D graphics, and different genres. It's very creative. [Notes] In future Windy Valley, buy the Under The Sun-dar for 3k gold ASAP if you plan on 100%ing. No missables, but lots of backtracking. [Price] CT / Zelda ALTTP / Mega Man fans - buy it. Everyone else - wait for sale.

You'll Probably Disagree

I loved the original for being a tight, unique, innovative experience. The sequel injects a melodramatic story, drags out some very tedious sections with zero humor or irony, and tackles different genres from the original which require greater competence and tighter design to implement well. The common consensus, however, seems to be that people like this mess more. So, if my bitter, jaded views don't resonate with you, you'll probably disagree.
