Description
Ether is a mysterious, omnipresent substance out of which everything in the world is made. Ether knows no barriers; everything springs from it and returns to it after death, and its flow is life itself — the life of the Ether Universe. For the intelligent dwellers of this world, ether is a source of power and pure energy, sometimes referred to as magic. They are born with this ability — using invisible currents of energy flows, they create armor, weapons and servants... Ether is the thread from which they weave their world.

Enter the world of Etherlords as a champion of one of the four great magical races: the powerful Chaots, the brilliant Kinets, the empathetic Vitals, or the ruthless biomechanical Synthets. Create a powerful deck of cards to summon troops who will follow your every command: exploring the world, conquering territories, battling the minions of enemy lords and ferocious creatures unleashed by the disturbances in the flow of the Ether. Build forces, create spells, and engage in diplomacy. Collect essential resources to fuel your armies, upgrade and enhance your spell sets, and create powerful spell books for conducting duels in the best traditions of trading card gameplay.
  • Build your own deck to summon troops that will join your trading-card styled battles.
  • A detailed diplomacy system featuring long-term alliances and trade agreements.
  • Four magic races, each with its own distinctive realms, spells and combat style.

A mix between HoMM and Magic card games

The tittle says almost everything you have to know about this game. It's a fun mix between a card like game with a strategical aspect. The problem is that the mix doesn't work always that well it becomes repetitive and unable to surpass HoMM or Disciples on the strategic level. On the card side, it's has a lot of variety and spells, but it's not as good as its sequel Etherlords 2 or the classical old game Magic : The Gathering, yet the variety of things you can experiment in this game is quite enough to keep you interested for a long time, a shame you can't mix the different deck/factions together. Design wise the game reminds a lot the card game Magic, the four colours... and the character design although quite pleasing for the eye and original even if quite dated by nowadays standards. Finally, if you're a person that doesn't like "gambling" and luck playing too much importance in your game, you'd better avoid this one because cards are cards... Shuffled randomly and you don't get what you want at the right time or you can be totally screwed by that. However I'll say that managing and anticipating random factors is also quite a good part of what strategy actually is and perhaps it's worth a try for a change.

Please bring the second one as well!

I remember that game very well! At the time I thought it was probably the best Heroes of Might and Magic meets Magic the Gathering game I could ask for. Beautiful and very fun, I spent hours perfecting my deck and crushing my enemies. Or getting crushed, to be fair, the game does get tough. Turn by turn strategie fans, get this game. CCG fans, get this game. In short, get this game, and hope the next one in the series is added as well!

Aggravating, brutal and addictive

This is a good example of what happens when a developer plans well and then sticks to that plan. Etherlords is a solid game with addictively frustrating game play. The importance of managing your spells and summonings AND being flexible with your build so you can better match your next opponent is crucial. This game does not care about your feelings, it will crush you mercilessly if you don't have a strong deck or if you get a bad run of cards. As mentioned by others there are some graphic and game play flaws that keep this and it's predecessor from being five star games, but it is a solid entry into the TBS/RPG crossover field and one I happily have in my physical collection alongside Fantasy General and HOMM

Good game

It is a good game and pretty fun but it does get repetitive after a while and as someone have said before won't come near HoMM3 or Disciples. Before you purchase this game I should warn you the pacing is slow due to the combat style. So be prepare to spend TONS of hours because of the long combats. I still remember this as the most annoying factor for both games.

Pretty fun

Pretty fun game. I like CCGs, so it's natrual I'd enjoy this game. It's tough, but that can be a good thing depending on taste. The main problem is that unlike most GOG games, this game seems to fully crash if I get any kind of dialog popping up (skype, etc.).. it also has Alt-tab disabled and doesn't seem to have a windowed mode. For the money I'll not exactly complain, but GOG ususually does amazingly well allowing games to run well under modern Windows 7 conditions, but this seems to be an exception that I have to set my computer up specially to get working.
