What's cool about it:

  • An innovative in-game unit creator that lets you research and build your own vehicles
  • Good visuals that aren’t very heavy on your system
  • Four completely different sides of a massive conflict

Only a few thousand humans managed to escape from the Earth before its collapse in 2150 A.D. They spent the next few years on the terra forming of the red planet, developing new technologies and building up new civilisations. Somehow each of the three fractions "Eurasian Dynasty", "United Civilised States" and "Lunar Corporation" did this independently and separately from each other - but in the year 2160 something strange happens in this new world. Will the ED, UCS and LC join forces or continue their old war against each other?

Besides the usual venues in the solar system, there are some strange looking locations: planets with moving and reflecting liquid surfaces. And beside the standard RTS - resources acquisition, base building and destruction of enemy bases, the year 2160 will have some adventure inspired tasks for the players.

Best of all "Earth.." series games!

Posted on 2009-06-23 13:23:49 byigor8472's avatarigor8472:

Earth 2160 is most recent of the 'Earth' series games and very good continuation of my favourite Earth 2150. As previous game presents many customizable units, expanded research tree with different choices like "Develop Mk.3 laser or choose rockets instead". You can also bribe pirates, agents, soldiers of fortune to join your cause. This time developers added aliensread more to previous three factions: United Civilized States, Lunar Corp. and Eurasian Dynasty. Almost 30 packed with action missions guarantees you many hours of gr8 fun.
I'm pretty sure that it's graphically most awasome of all GOG's catalogue games. Earth2160 is beautiful. Nice shaders & light effects, good textures and units animation. Music also is well fited to game, performed by Mannheim-Heidelberg Orchestra from Germany.
I can summarize this review in three words: Prettier. More. Better.

Customize Mechs, what else can I say?

This game packs in a lot of value in the way of content and options.
Sometimes you need your RTSs flashy and mechanized, this will surely complement Shattered Steel in my GOG mech collection, keep the robots coming GOG.
By the way there is no Online Activation, although the graphic for the Activate button still remains in the menu.

Great game, holds up very well

I love this game. The 3D is very well done, with atmospheric effects, smoke contrails, nice lighting... all kinds of goodies. On a decent machine, you can have many dozens of units all going at it and notice no slow down. Good tech tree and vehicle design options. Do not neglect the "+" key. This doesn't speed up the game like normal, but fast forwards to the nextread more "important" thing... basically, any event you might need to respond to. So if you need to build up a chunk of units to take out an objective, stack 20 of them in the build queue and keep hitting the + key. Poink, poink, poink. They all come bopping out. Or if you're sending units on a long slog, same deal. Press + and they will go till they hit their mark, or enemies. A nice touch. Controls are great; some of the UI gets a big boggy, but you get used to it.
Fun to build bases, research units, design and build 'em, defend the base, etc. Just fun. Which is the point, eh?
