Description
After the events in Deponia, Rufus came to his senses. He's grown prudent, amicable, kind and caring, without any intention to cause major mayhem just to further his own selfish ends. It seems he is far from chaining himself to flaming saw blades, training torpedo-dolphins or plundering platypus nests. Or is he? Eventually, it's a flaming saw blade that “persuades” Goal to stay on Deponia once more, splitting her personality into three parts in the process, each aspect of her consciousness stored to a different cartridge. So it's up to Rufus and his remarkable charm to persuade Goal's personalities to fuse into one again, make his way to Elysium with her and save Deponia from certain Chaos while he's at it. Join Rufus on his way through the vast area of the Floating Black Market, meet new, bizarre characters and reunite with familiar faces.

The second adventure on Deponia tells a unique, self contained story playable without further knowledge of the first installment. Challenging puzzles, elaborate dialogues and unique wacky humor ensure a truly hilarious gaming experience. Fans of the first game will discover new aspects of familiar characters' backgrounds and have many questions answered.
  • Strange and wacky devices ranging from torpedo dolphins, burning saw blades, and even anti-gravity socks.
  • Challenging puzzles coupled with hours of dialogue bristling with humor.
  • Bizarre characters--both old and new--each with their own quirks of personality.

The best point & click game

Deponia 2: Chaos on Deponia is in a word amazing. The best point & click adventure game I've played, beating Monkey Island and Broken Sword games, seriously. Star of the game is once again Rufus, egoistical jerk who always has some scatter brained plan for everything and of course people get hurt in the progress. Now the love interest, Elysian girl named Goal, has much bigger part to play, she's not just asleep most of the time. The first big mission is basically persuading Goal's 3 different personalities and the end of the mission a bit heartbreaking not spoiling too much though. Story revolves around Rufus trying to fix Goal and get to Elysium, this place high above in the sky, to tell that Deponia is inhabited and not to blow it up. You also discover some interesting things about Elysium which makes you question a bit that are the bad guys really bad guys, and what would really be best for everyone. If Rufus really trying to do the right thing? The biggest complain I had with the first game was the ending, that was the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars, but now that's not the case, ending just left me graving for more, like with the first game, but now it was satisfying too. Deponia ended just as things got really interesting, but Deponia 2 starts off interesting and hilarious keeping that feeling all the way through game. They do a fairly good job explaining what happened in Deponia in the beginning of the game, but I still really recommend playing the first one because you just won't know these characters as well and there are some hilarious references to Deponia, and it's really good game too. Gameplay is, interestingly, actually improved from Deponia and other point & click games. It still has the same basics, you mix some crazy stuff you find and try to go forward, but this time there are some extras. You need to sometimes take what people say literally and do what they say, there are some easter eggs and puzzles sometimes evolve around these things, like having to adjust your settings from menu screen. These things might seem like minor extras, but they still kind of set a standard for other point & click games to try and evolve. Puzzles are awesome, one of the best, if not the best that I've ever played. They're logical... well they're logical in their own silly, quirky way. For example, you need to get a fish from fisherman, paint it black and white like a zebra, put a platypus egg to its mouth and shock the fish alive with this space time altering machine that you use later to time travel and later the egg hatches into a platypus that eats the fish. It makes sense... really, it does. And the best for last, humor. Humor is top notch, there are constantly coming real laugh out loud moments, like this hamburger restaurant called Mc Thulhu(obvious reference McDonalds and Chtulhu) which is run by an interesting fella who calls customers sacrifices and tries to get people step on some kind of trap door, he also seems to talk to some dark overlord in his basement who runs the shop :D There also are some serious moments and they're very well done. As for the bad things, nothing big except typo's. It doesn't make the game worse and there aren't that much of them, but it still gives away this unprofessional feeling. Someone clearly didn's spell check this one thoroughly. This is a minor complain though and could be fixed with a patch. Bottom line, awesome game. Makes some real improvements over the first one in terms of story and characters, and brings some minor new things to the whole p&c genre. As I said in Deponia review, if you like point & click games, there's no reason to pass Deponia, but now I say, if you like games at all, you definitely should play Deponia 2, it's just that amazing.

great but poorly optimized

"professional" reviews of this game make me sad, it really shows that if a classic gem like Monkey Island came out today it would flop. If you are a fan of classic Lucas Arts or Sierra adventure game then this trilogy should be an insta-buy. Unfortunately there is a optimization issue, meaning that the game has a tendency to lag or crash even though it is not particularly graphically demanding. So to summarize, this series is on par with the classic adventure greats with a few issues holding it back from a full 5 star score.

Part 2 of a Fantastic Trilogy.

Rufus returns in Chaos on Deponia, after the events of the first game (I will attempt to keep spoilers to a minimum) Rufus attempts, yet agian, to reach Elysium, shenanigans ensue and he messes up another Character's Brain Implant, which is the main focus of this game. The Voice acting, Music, and Art are once again at the top of their game, and the puzzles are still pretty hard (I think i used a walkthrough for this one to.). The complaint of the characters other the Rufus being pretty meh has been addressed here as many of the characters here are interesting or at least funny. The Plot starts to truly begin in this game, and the end will leaving you pining for the Conclusion of the Trilogy (And Personally left me hoping the series wouldn't end with the Trilogy.). If you liked the First one, this is a must buy, but you WILL be confused if you didn't play the first game, so get that one first.

Deponia does it again

Like an unclaimed junk heap, it has its rough edges and smells a bit in some parts. But, underneath it all, you find an unpolished diamond of a game. It will make you laugh with its special brand of German humor, scratch your head with some reeeeeeal lateral thinking puzzle-solving, and curse like a sailor at the crappy visual cues for some puzzles, which will probably make you consult a walkthrough. Another satisfying chapter in the Deponia series. Looking forward to playing the third iteration.

Fun Puzzles, Obnoxious Main Character

Deponia 2: Chaos on Deponia; Is a fun adventure game that suffers largely from its localization into english, and bland and largely obnoxious main protagonist. Alright, I am going to have to say that the game is an excellent adventure game, as far as puzzles go. It isn't a particularly well optimized game, and suffers from many of the tedious rifling through an poorly designed UI system, but it proves only a minor inconvenience. The puzzles are challenging and not excessively so, and there may be one or two that just boggles your mind. Ultimately, what the game suffers from is unfortunately, the main protagonist. Where to begin? There are so many things that makes you really, really hate this guy. Not only is his voice acting truly obnoxious, but his character is also obnoxious. He's a jerk, I get that. I was hoping that he'd show a sliver of character development as he developed from the first part to the second, but... not really. He's an all around unpleasant person as a character, which unfortunately would be fine if the jokes and things he did were actually amusing. They're not. If this game was banking on nostalgia of Lucasarts Adventure games, the only thing they got done right was the character design, and environments--The story and actual characters--the heart and soul of any adventure game, is woefully deficient on this part.
