Welcome to Africa

Have you ever wanted to be president or prime-minister? Convinced you could do a better job of running the country? Let's face it, you could hardly do a worse job than our current political leaders.

Take Control of African Politics

Democracy 3: Africa is the new standalone 're-imagining' of the hit political strategy game 'Democracy 3'. Set entirely in countries on the continent of Africa, D3:A puts you in charge of these countries and challenges you to stay in power whilst fixing each country's problems, improving the quality of life for your electorate, and steering them towards greater prosperity.

This turn-based political strategy game uses a unique icon-driven interface to help you navigate the most complex political and economic simulation ever seen in a computer game, custom-built on its own proprietary neural network. Democracy 3: Africa simulates the myriad interactions between voters, policies, economic and political variables, political parties and the various situations that develop over time.

Democracy 3: Africa uses the base design and gameplay from the original game but the diversity of social and economic situations in Africa presents you with new challenges and opportunities. Foreign aid and investment takes on a new meaning and often comes with strings attached. Serious issues like malnutrition and access to clean water could be a matter of life and death for the poorest. This new game will let you try your hand at governing the diverse democracies of Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, Tunisia, Botswana and Mauritius. When you step down, will your country be in a better state than when you took up office?

Although it builds on the existing game, Democracy 3: Africa has completely new artwork, music and a series of new events and dilemmas tuned to the issues and situations that are relevant in contemporary Africa.

Can you turn your country into an economic powerhouse that competes with the strongest world economies? Is this the vision you have for your country, or are you aiming for a socialist haven? Can you improve health and education for all your people? Does a little corruption help oil the wheels of power? And can you do this whilst keeping the competing demands of the people under control?

How to get elected.

Took control of Botswana and helped create a flourishing economy. Voted out after first term. Turned Egypt into an authoritarian hellhole with a flatlining GDP. Won in a landslide. Dictatorships FTW.

Stability Issues

I was lucky enough to get this title during the recent pinata sale, which I was very excited for having played the first Democracy 3 for many hours on end. The first thing I encountered however, is the game repeatedly crashing on me whenever I advanced my turn. I was able to work around this by changing from fullscreen to windowed mode, and to a smaller resolution. I very happily then played through my first scenario. If you played these in the past, its pretty much the same deal with some slightly different tweaks to various personalities, groups, and overall population beliefs and behaviors. The game, for the price, is definitely worth it. However... After my first scenario I logged out and didn't revisit the game until the next day, when, while still in windowed mode, I encountered crash after crash after crash whenever I advanced my turn. It's for this reason that I have only given the game two stars. These issues, at least according to Google searches, have existed for quit a long time, even the patch notes have fixes for crashes while advancing the turn, but sadly, these still seem to exist in at least the GOG version of the game. I would say avoid for now.

What is wrong with the africa version?

Minster is upset with me, wants to talk. Okay bro, let's talk. "I'm unhappy with how you treat the people I sympathize with." Okay...Who would that be? "Parents and Women." You do understand that the last year, parents and women have seen a wide number of pro them policies and I get excited letters of praise from them every single day? "Yes, but do they worship you as God yet? Do they love 100% of everything you do?" WHY DOES EVERY SINGLE MINISTER GET MAD AT ME NO MATTER WHAT I DO AND QUIT!!!!!!! I lose every single minister, despite getting 90% approval ratings!

Fun. If you like charts. A lot of them.

I haven't played any earlier Democracy, got the game from pinata sale. And i must say, surely worth the money. The game is very gripping if you like to look at charts and figures thinking intensively how to get rid of asthma in your country and not get overthrown by motorists at the same time. You have to make compromises, there's no other way. At least until a point you made so many compromises that you get 80% of votes and when the next election comes, the opposition party (which you can name yourself - i found that a small, but entertaining feature) will be nonexistent. From now on you probably have one or two election periods to create your paradise (keep an eye on the budget deficit though) and the game ends. It took me 1,5 hour but it was very well spent time. I will definitely play again, it's a fun time-killer into which you can jump in for 20 minutes before sleep, make some decisions (beware the one-more-turn syndrome) and come back 3 days later. Or just play it 1,5 hours straight, why not.

Game doesn't work

I've tried to get this game to work on two different Windows laptops, and both have had the game crash every time I try to advance my turn. The game designer is aware of the issue and yet the game hasn't been updated since 2016. Disabling the sound doesn't help, and trying to switch to windowed mode doesn't even work. I can play one game the first time I install the game; from there on out, it crashes once I advance my turn.
