Once more into the breach, soldier. Did you think you already won the war? Quit restin’ on them laurels because the enemy is rolling up on us as we speak. We got the Germans on one side and the Russians, who are busy steamrolling through Eastern Europe, and us, the few, the proud, and the ones right in the middle of it all, the Americans. Get your gear together, load up your M1 Carbine and move out, private!

Blitzkrieg 2 takes everything you loved about the original game and kicks it up to a whole new level. You’ll take on the role of German, American, and Russian WWII battlefield commanders modeled after their real-world counterparts as they command more than 250 historically accurate types of troops, including 60 varieties of ground infantry. Blitzkrieg 2: Liberation expansion focuses on new strategic opportunities, war on a global scale and exciting battles. You will take command of the US Army or German Wehrmacht as you plan massive operations and lead your men into fierce action. Blitzkrieg 2: Fall of the Reich expansion spans three major offensives from the final days of fighting on the Eastern front, and covers both the Soviet and German offensives.
  • Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology includes the original game and both expansion packs: Fall of the Reich and Liberation.
  • Control more than 250 authentic WWII units that gain experience and new skills, enhancing their tactical use on the battlefield.
  • Command either Russian or German forces and fight campaigns covering the waning moments of war on the Eastern Front.

A disappointing sequel

It's not a bad game in its own right, but much of what made the original special (not to mention fun or replayable) is gone. There's a reason why the majority of Blitzkrieg 1 fans dislike the sequel - it's too... "arcade-y". In the original, every single unit mattered, gained invaluable experience and rose in military rank as the game progressed. There was a deep sense of satisfaction in slowly bolstering your forces, you would eventually develop a sense of attachment to your army accompanying you throughout each campaign. More importantly, Blitzkrieg was a game of tactical approach, rewarding clever thinking and methodical execution. While admittedly graphically impressive, Blitzkrieg 2 feels much more like your typical RTS fare of "select all your units and A-move", or at least seems to encourage that type of behaviour. Gone are the "core units", losing your entire army usually isn't a big deal due to the (utterly broken) "reinforcement system", mission design way too often restricts you to certain unit types for absolutely no reason, all units in this game move unnaturally fast and to make matters worse, completing mission objectives more often than not comes down to overwhelming the enemy with superior numbers rather than smart tactical decisions... To summarize - unlike its predecessor, B2 seems to promote a zerg rush mentality. If the aformentioned flaws do not bother you, then give B2 a try, you might get some enjoyment out of it. If you're a fan of the original - you'll probably end up being very disappointed.

Impressive RTS

If you are fanatic about the way the first Blitzkrieg game plays, then you might not love this sequel. There are some differences between them, with B2 having a more streamlined design, a greater focus on being a RTS than a tactical sim. Not that the game is THAT different to not be able to figure out which game's sequel it is. :p It is very difficult, you need to use strategy and tactics, you need to think of your long time plan since you get to upgrade your "units" in a similar way to..well, Panzer General 3D mostly, but not exactly. Reinforcements are of a less of an issue than in the previous game, but it never reaches the point where you simply don't care/worry about them. Especially in the long run of a campaign... This is not a C&C type of RTS, you can't just drag a box around all your tanks and charge forward. You will pay for it dearly. Enemy scout units, snipers, machinegun nests, anti tank traps and units, are all ready to ruin your day. The game is a very solid good RTS game with more emphasis on tactics than other RTS games, but still a bit easier than the first game. The graphics are in 3D this time, which depending on the gamer is better or worse. I found them very good at the time and never a negative issue. The sound is as solid as ever. I recommend this game to anyone wanting to play a very good RTS game but want a bit more challenge than "rush tactics win" RTS games.

Good old school RTS

I spend my hours with this game when I was younger and I find it as engaging now as then. As others pointed out, this is a tactical RTS with tries to simulate the true nature of WWII combat. That said, the game is very unforgiving. Even if you are experienced RTS player you will find yourself replaying one mission up to ten times to advance to the next. The game demands near perfect executing and a single tactical error will lead to defeat or a lack of sufficient forces, forcing you to restart the map. Thus, unless you have dozens of hours to spare on this game and are prepared to replay the same mission countless times, I would not recommend this game. I actually enjoyed Blitzkrieg 2 more, as it is much more accessible for most players. I know, I know. I'm not a "hardcore" gamer", so I believe games should be fun, and punishing difficulty is not my idea of fun.

Great WW2 RTS

I love this game it is fast paced much faster than bk1 but it is alot of fun. You get plenty of reinforcements in most missions so you can be more agressive in attacking but it is not an easy game you still have to use tactics to win. the replayabilty is high due to adjustable difficulty levels and overall fun. Bottom line if you love WW2 games this is a must buy. Thanks to G.O.G for offering this Drm free as I have the hard copy disks which use starforce copy protection that is horrible this G.O.G version is awesome!! Get it!!

Mixed Feelings

I've jumped straight into BK2 without ever having even so much as looked at BK1. All the usual GFX and SFX seem to be on par for the type of game, and the gameplay itself is fair. But there are some very low quality aspects to it - absolute sure signs of cost/corner cutting and lazy programming by Nival. I don't know what country Nival are based in but the English translations in the game are an absolute JOKE. Even ARMA1's pidgeon Czech to English can't compete with this one! And the constant spelling mistakes drive me mad. The German Marder III for example is mispelled "Murder III". "Evacuation" was spelled "Evaqation" in one scenario. The first campaign (the US campaign) came to a buggy end right at the VERY end in the VERY last mission due to the mission requiring the destruction of all enemy units on the map - which just did NOT trigger as objective complete even when you had done so - I spent over two hours scouring the map, so I'm pretty certain I had not missed anything!
