In a city teeming with life, who has time for the dead?

Meet Rosangela Blackwell, an embittered writer who just found out that she is a medium and that it’s her mission, whether she likes it or not, to assist tormented spirits and investigate other supernatural goings-on. She is assisted by the sardonic Joey Mallone, a ghost from the 1930s.

In the Blackwell Legacy, you are introduced to Rosangela as she meets Joey Mallone for the first time and is called upon to investigate a series of mysterious suicides at a local university. An enigmatic killer and a string of seemingly unconnected accidents set the background for Blackwell Unbound. Blackwell Convergence will have you investigating a film premiere that hides a bloody past and--last but not least!--in Blackwell Deception you’ll investigate why the customers of various street psychics seem to die under very mysterious circumstances.

New York, the city that never sleeps, is waiting for you to solve 4 gripping mysteries before it’s too late!

Great series

Although they've been around for quite some time, I've only managed to play all of the Blackwell games last year, back to back, in two days while on vacation.
They are fantastic. Far from perfect, but still fantastic. The main issue I have with the games is that most of the puzzles tend to be overly simplistic, or so old that I can just auto-pilot trough them. Stuff like the penny-screwdriverread more or the newspaper under the door to get the key. There's also the need to sometimes combine clues, so the character can reach conclusions I already did, in order to progress, which could get annoying if you forget to do it.
But that's besides the point. The main focus of the game is it's story, and especially it's characters. The dynamic between Rosangela Blackwell, a journalist that recently discovered she is a medium and can see spirits, and Joey Malone, a man who's been dead since the 30's, is just amazing. They really come of as believable characters, and seeing their interaction over the course of 3 games, and then seeing Joey and Rosa's aunt in Blackwell Unbound, as they help lost spirits find peace and move on, is the reason I keep wanting to play these games.
They have more to them than just the characters. The story is well done, having elements that are somewhat based in reality from a subtle to a very direct way. The graphics, though they could have been better in Deception when it comes to the characters, are great. And the music is just amazing. I'm not sure if it's included in the pack on GOG, but look for Epileptic Fish in SoundCloud.
If you haven't played these games yet, and you're a fan of adventures, or just stories with good characters, I encourage you to give them a try. Also check out the two cartoons with Rosa an Joey that are on the web, they're short, but very funny. Hopefully the fifth game will come along soon, because I really want to know what happens next.

Some of the finest story-telling in a video game.

Full Disclosure: I've only recently discovered this series and I'm only about halfway in to the third game, and can't speak to the quality of the fourth.
This is a surprisingly charming series of Adventure Games. It is obvious, while playing it, that this series was written by a Writer (With a capital W). Every character is wonderfully fleshed-out and feels very real. The gamesread more rarely use adventure-game logic, and most puzzles are solved how they would be if someone found themselves in the same situation in real life.
The tone is very melencholy, but the game never takes itself too seriously, either. There are charming quips from the main characters, but it never strays too far from the bitter-sweet tone that would exist if it was your job to help spirits to the next life.
It's worth playing every game twice to hear the wondeful commentaries. If you have an issue with part of the game, the designer will be the first to admit there are flaws, and will explain how he justifies or regrets his decisions in these commentaries.
This is probably one of the best new adventure game series to come out in the last 10 years. Adventure game fans and fans of great story-telling in video games should give it a try.

(Disclaimer: This is based on my experience playing through Legacy, Unbound and Convergence, from a past Indie Royale bundle.)
Sometimes, a game is in a place where all of the right elements come together to create a truly meaningful experience, and Wadjet Eye's Blackwell series is right there in midst of it. Almost. The plot and writing are excellent, with Rosangela especiallyread more standing out as a great example of a strong, well-fleshed out female protagonist. You really get a strong feel for how strong the shock is, to be jolted out of your relatively mundane experience and into a whole completely new realm of things you'll never be able to fully understand. The weight of her Aunt's fate (made all the more poignant when we see her for who she was in Unbound) weighs heavily on Rosa's shoulders when she thinks about what all of this might mean for her own future...
The voice acting is where games like these traditionally suffer, and in my opinion, while the voice work isn't bad, IMO it feels like it wasn't quite as high as it should have been; in places the vocalization sounds a little more dull than it should be. The games also feel a little too short sometimes; I understand they're just indie releases, but it feels like Wadjet gave us this rich vibrant, populated with equally vibrant characters, only to give us a narrative which doesn't fully explore them as much as they should.
In the end, even people who aren't traditionally fans of point-and-click adventures will want to pick this up. Anyone who values strong writing and pacing in their games will truly enjoy the engrossing narrative these games have to offer.
