Description
Take part in a roller coaster of emotions with Louise embarking on a road trip of a lifetime through the late 1960s USA, trying to show her son Mitch how to navigate the often cruel modern world.

What Does It Take To Be A Mother?

Telling good from bad was never easy, all the less when you're a single mum in her late 20s with a clever 8-year-old under your care. Each choice you make in the crucial few moments we all know may change our lives for good in a split of a second, influence what kind of person Mitch turns out to be and what values shall guide him once he becomes his own man.

Why Are You Who You Are?

Find clues as to why Louise’s life is what it is today, take crucial decisions no other person would be strong enough to stomach, and show Mitch what he needs to see in order for him to become independent, suave, and brave enough to conquer the day.

Everything Has Consequences

Your decisions REALLY matter! To keep track of Mitch’s growth as a person, each choice you make adds positive or negative points to three key statistics: Righteousness, Confidence, and Relations. These influence which type of ending Mitch will reach at the end of the game - there are 9 unique endings in total!

Everybody Has Their Story

The 1960s were tumultuous in more ways than one - the Summer of Love, the Vietnam War, the survivors and the losers of the great upheaval in history.
Canned Heat was “Going Up the Country” while Bob Dylan asked “How does it feel” to have no home and live on the street.
Travel across the country and meet a plethora of characters that may help or may dissuade Louise from her goals - including the most controversial groups many thought long gone.

KEY GAME FEATURES

  • A tangible system your dialogue and actions influence directly: Righteousness, Confidence, and Relations
  • 9 Different Endings dependable on your choices in key moments of the game
  • Beautiful, stylized artwork reminiscent of the 1960s era
  • Quick-time events to check your reflexes and feel the adrenaline pumping

BEST MONTH EVER! SOUNDTRACK INCLUDED!

It'll Be The Best Month Ever! is a complete collection of 29 beautiful, expressive, folk, country and jazz-inspired melodies prepared by the composer Jędrzej Bączyk (Pan Jędras). The stunning, nearly 80-minute original soundtrack is an excellent addition to the narrative adventure game, creating the musical soundscape of the main characters' journey across the 1960s USA.

Intense, enjoyable 5 hour visual novel

This is pretty much a telltale-ish game. The story is engaging, fully voiced, decent graphics. All screens in the game description are gameplay, not cut scenes: You get what you see. Progress is rather linear, though. It takes ~4-5h to complete. The characters are complex; flawed, have made and do make mistakes. The setting is well researched. And the story has this “just one more scene” vibe to it. Performance is a bit poor in some areas, but nothing game breaking. I encountered no bugs either. There are some odd reviews around, acting offended that there is a black kid who, heaven forbid, has a white mother; even call the story unrealistic. Seriously, what's wrong with people? Unrealistic? Yes, the plot is intense, to put it mildly. There is a lot to stomach here. But! First, the events, though fictionalized, did happen in 1969, just not all to the same person. Some are recorded history, others (like child abuse) can be reasonably assumed. Second, the 1960s were, de facto, not a great time to be black--if there ever was such a time at all. Third, even if you disagree on some details, keep in mind that the story uses an unreliable narrator: A kid's recollection of events, told 20 years after the fact. I sometimes don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning. Fourth, to tell a story means to focus on, and show conflict. If everything was peachy, what was there to tell? Dramatization is a necessary ingredient. And last, I have not lived in the 60s, but, I've lived in a village. I have seen similar things happening in the 90s. I could easily compile a story just as gruesome, because the core of rural communities hasn't changed. When we had not a black person left in 100km, people found somebody else to abuse. The cause for abuse is not the victim, the cause is the abuser. Abusers never change, only their victims do. All that said: You absolutely should try this story. You won't regret it! Now excuse me, while I go back to check out the other endings.

Good Game, More Linear than Expected

Ok so despite all the people trolling the comments section and losing their mind cause the the game features *gasp* an interracial family, the game isn't bad at all. My one real nitpick with it is the fact that other than the final ending your choices don't matter much. Like your collective choices change the final ending, but the rest of the story goes the same regardless of what you do. Less linearity could have really done well with a game so seemingly packed with choice, but regardless the game stands on its own merit. There's a bit of weird fetishising of Native American cultures (basically a stereotypical Shamanic vision quest with no actual background on it) but other than that the story is solid. It's worth a playthrough if you're not so horribly obsessed with conservatism that you see have to lose your mind and leave a bad review when you see a white mother with a black child who experiences racism.

Meh mechanics, very immersive

As a game, this leaves a lot to be desired. It's basically a Choose Your Own Adventure, with your choices, such as they are, not necessarily leading to the actions you expect. And I'm not sure that your (limited) choices matter much. And often your only choice is to click on a small diamond that is hard to click on because the frame is slightly bouncing like a handheld camera. And too many of the twelve chapters are resolved with violence. That said, if you think of it as a digitalized, slightly over the top and too short novel, it's engaging and at times downright moving. The voicework, especially of the mom, feel spot on, and even if the plot is a bit much, I found myself surprisingly committed to the characters and the story. I don't think I'll ever think about the Sixties in the same way, which is saying a lot, as someone who grew up in the shadow of that decade.
