Description

Eight new ‘Mechs have been added to the world of BATTLETECH, including seven classic designs from the original board game along with a never-before-seen ‘Mech created exclusively for this expansion. New methods of destruction await as eight devastating weapons systems are now available to wreak havoc like never before. Heavy Metal takes ‘Mech action to the next level with a brand new Flashpoint Mini-Campaign.

One Original and Seven Classic BattleMechs:
Seven classic ‘Mechs from BATTLETECH’s 35-year legacy make their triumphant return along with the first completely new ‘Mech designed exclusively for this expansion. Each ‘Mech comes with unique equipment that reflects the flavor and lore of the original board game.

Eight Game-changing New Weapon Systems:
Eight all-new weapon systems can be utilized to destroy even the most formidable opponents in a wide variety of unique ways. The new ‘Mech Mortar is the first AOE weapon in BATTLETECH and can destroy multiple units at once, while the COIL Beam generates more energy damage the further the attacker travels before firing, a perfect fit for light ‘Mechs.

New Flashpoint Mini-Campaign:
Come face-to-face with two legendary characters from BATTLETECH lore - the Bounty Hunter and the Black Widow of Wolf’s Dragoons. A derelict cargo ship has drifted into the Periphery from deep space; what secrets does it contain, and who will ultimately control its mysterious payload?

the new norm

The last Battletech DLC establishes what I guess is going to be the norm for HBS/Paradox moving forward: release a large, "free" patch (1.8) that introduces new 'mechs, new maps, optimization, new events, 'mech variants and a slew of other features alongside a paid "DLC" which, uh, does less for $20 (which I guess pays for patch development?). If you like the base game (as I do), then you'll be happy for more content (even if it's just more 'mechs, weapons and one, brief string of same maps and objectives with new text). But if you expect the price you pay for something to be proportional to its quality, I don't think this will impress you.

Heavy Metal brings the metal

By no means is this expansion the best ever but people need to stop complaining. This expansion brings a new flashpoint campaign and even more mechs and toys than we had before. I am all for expanding on the Mech selection and enjoy having new toys to experiment with. Yes, Hairbrained did release a pretty big update alongside this expansion but that doesn't mean this expansion isn't worth it. They have to pay bills like everyone else so they can't just give all their work away for free and I for one am glad they do what they do so I can play this awesome game.

A little better, I guess.

Ok, well it has the Rifleman, one of my fave Mechs since the good old 1980/90s when I was a kid and Devs just made GOOD games (free of gender politics) - although some say it was part of the patch, if so I don`t have much to say about the exp itself. There are a couple of extra mechs although i`m not sure which are new. There are some new weapons systems, but I`m certain some of these things are out of chronological order. they look like Clan stuff, which shouldn`t exist yet. Can`t help but get the feeling hat they don`t care for the good old Battletech experience that many of us had in the 90s. Sad.

We didn't want a BattleTech game.

While it's great that they brought some of the classic 'Mechs back (really, the Assassin and the Flea? Why no Wasp or Stinger?) that they actually brought some completely broken devices into the game indicates that they're not interested in giving us a BattleTech game, and more trying to re-write history and whitewash years of canon. An Ultra AC/5, in 3025? That does 9 points of damage per shot? Great job. The "improved" autocannons broke the game originally, and now adding LB-X autocannons an Ultra Autocannons firmly cements the game as more a fanfic than a canonical adventure in BattleTech. The new "powers" that they gave the newly added 'Mechs show what little regard they hold for BattleTech fans who have been playing since the BattleDroid days. The one good thing (and what indicates it deserves a single star) is that they're finally allowing mods. So, maybe one of the great modding community can create an effective mod to fix all the bad parts of this game and make it amazing.
