The true meaning of the word fear...
Once upon a time, fairy tales were valuable cautionary yarns filled with dire warnings and sage advice. However, over time, the stories have become so watered down with cute woodland creatures and happy endings that they have lost their true meaning and purpose. No more! This is American McGee's Grimm, and Happily Ever After ends now!
Experience an incredible adventure built around the world's best-known fairy tales. As Grimm, you will transform the classic tales of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and more of your favorites into darkly twisted Grimm versions of themselves in 23 episodes. Each game episode is centered around one of the world's best-known fairy tales and provides 30 minutes of gameplay. Each episode is a complete, standalone experience and the episodes can be played in any order.

It's really hard to review this piece. It's not very exciting, nor very challenging. Maybe it shouldn't even be called a game. It's more like an interactive painting with story.
So the gameplay is just not really there. In some later episodes it can get more diverse, but most of the time you just walk around and turn everything dark. The focus here obviously wasn't on exciting gameplay-mechanics.
Thatread more said, the art is really nicely made and the changing effect from lighter to darker art has also turned out very well.
The game can get gory at times; you will definitely notice that American McGee worked here^^ (of course not only recognizable by blood)
The music is subtle most of the time, but fits really well to the fairy-tale setting.
So to whom can I recommend this now?
People that like Grimm's fairy-tales will probably enjoy this new twist and alternate stories. Also fans of American McGee will like this game for the unique approach and art style.

I got this as an addon to American Mcgee's Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Kickstarter campaign and found it to be a real joy to play.
However, the actual gameplay is very limited as there is literally no way to lose. Fall in water? No problem; just re-spawn on land (after hearing a witty one-liner first). The idea behind this game is that you are presented with a child friendly versionread more of one of Grimm's fairy tales and your objective is to "paint the world" dark which will reveal how the same part of the story was "originally" told. At the end of episode, you get the full version of the dark tale.
The fun of this game comes from the appreciation of Amercian Mcgee's artwork and the anticipation as to how the story will proceed once you complete the next part of an episode. If you are looking for something that is challenging and/or has gameplay with a lot of depth, then sadly you will not find it here.

I love the art style and the dark nature of this series, but there is not really much of a game to it.
Every level boils down to having to "paint" the world dark in as little time as possible. Although it does get challenging in later episodes, with the introduction of tougher "enemies" that has to be converted and platforming section, if you are looking for a hardcore game, thisread more game isin't for you. That said, the gameplay is rewarding in that you get to impact the world and it's always fun to see what gruesomeness you get to cause.
So in conclusion, nice art style and wonderful sense of humor, with simple but satisfying gameplay.
