Love it.
My best friend hit me up a week ago to let me know he'd heard about this game that sounded like it had been made specifically for me—a dating sim set in pre-revolutionary France full of parties, drama, and fashion. Lifelong obsessions, all. I quickly let him know I'd been on the mailing list for the game for about a year and had already bought it on release day. I say all this to say my review is going to be biased because, truly, they had me at hello with this one. But being as objective as I can be, I'll say the game has been well worth the wait. The core of the game is solid and a lot of fun if you enjoy visual novels/calender-based games ("life-sims" we used to call them... I was a big Princess Maker 2). There's a wealth of characters, a lot of hidden events and interactions, and a bunch of possible endings. I finished my first playthrough a few days ago and immediately started a new game to try a different path. It's addicting. Also: the music! Massive tip of the hat to the composer and the players. The game does have flaws: as another reviewer mentioned, there are some gameplay elements that are woefully underdeveloped or perhaps had to be dialed back during development; there are also some technical glitches that range from minute (typos and the like) to disruptive/game halting. The team at Joy Manufacturing, though, has been responsive when players report issues, both through email and on the game's Discord, and extremely quick to issues patches. I posted an issue on the Discord yesterday, they followed up almost immediately, and a patch was issued to everyone within 24 hrs. I'm loving the game as-is, and I'm even more excited to see it grow. There are definitely still wrinkles to be ironed out, but the team is committed to doing so, and I'm in for the long haul. Hell, if there's ever DLC for Le Petit Mogul, consider me the first buyer. 😁 This game feels like it was made for me, and I'm glad to have it.
