budget crimes and punishment

Ok. First of all...I wanted to love this game, I watched all David Suchett Poirots and simply love the character. However after playing Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishment it is simply impossible to enjoy this game. the mind map system looks similar but it is simply impossible to arrive at the wrong conclusion. You do not have to really think about what happened, you may as well brute force your way throught every problem. The whole dilemma of interpreting facts wrong which was actual danger in Sherlock Holmes simply do not exists here. You will never miss anything- game will not progress unless you do everything in correct order. This is very clear during the first case, an item was stolen from the house, do you want to go to the house and speak with people inside? No stupid, first you need to look at EVERYTHING outside and only then you can go inside. Oh do you think you will have any problems with finding who did it? Nope, unless you click on the right suspect the game will not progress. And yes, it is how point&click games work, I get it, I really do. But after playing Sherlock your expectations change, especially when Poirot was clearly inspired by it. And everything that was interesting about Sherlock was removed in this game. When you adjust your expectations and start to think of this game as succesor to Evil under the sun - rather typical point&click it gets much better. If you look for interesting Poirot game try ABC murders which does much better job at making you feel as Poirot.

very disappointing

Like many I was drawn to the game by having enjoyed SH Crime & Punishments as well as being a life long (Suchet's) Poirot fan as well as a big fan of Agatha Christie's crime books. Alas this game was a major disappointment on all fronts. This game made point and click boring and tedious way more than it needed to be. The character can only walk, not run. Gets very old very fast. There's barely no during conversation, they're in the style of those "animated tales" where you get the text/subtitles over the lower part of the screen and the two char's likenesses on each side of it. The whole game's animation is on the level with those 'hidden object' mobile games. Very low budget for the price of the game and the fact it came out in 2021 and not two decades ago. The whole 'mind map' thing frankly made me frustrated and wish I had never given money for the game. You must draw the most obvious, inane "conclusions" like "character was worried" when it's clear from a mile off that's an understood fact. Several times I couldn't make the necessary 'connections' and ended up spending an hour trying various combinations to finally randomly find the right one, by which point I couldn't have cared less what said conclusion was. And rarely was it anything that required actual thinking power, a kindergartener could have beaten me by trying less hard to think about things logically. I only figured out I can zoom in on the mind maps by scrolling the middle mouse button *halfway through the game*. By that point I had given up on playing with a controller because it was clunky, and via keyboard because walking the character everywhere was tedious. Hover-over mouse FTW. Didn't find the zoom function on either, no hints of it either in the game. I could go on, but to sum up this game made me feel stupid and frustrated. And I live for crime, adventure and puzzle games. This game failed at all three. And it was very overpriced. Would ask for money back but GOG is not to blame.

Boring

I also wanted to enjoy this game. I like Agatha Christie, I like mystery games, I liked Evil Under the Sun and Crimes and Punishments. But I'm only about 2 hrs in and I'm not sure if I can finish it. The game is just too boring. - The deduction map requires you to make many tiny connections, to the point where I had to brute force some things that I'd already figured out, but didn't know how the game wanted me to map out. - Poirot walks everywhere and there's no option for fast travel or sprint. Tedious when you're wandering around a very boring level - There are items with the option to interact but Poirot just says 'There's nothing interesting'. Cool story bro. - I'm not a fan of the art style. Personal preference but compared to Crimes and Punishments it was like a game for a mobile phone. You just get hand drawn images of the characters during dialogue that stay static for each line of dialogue. - There's no intellectual challenge. No choices, just clicking your way around everywhere. You can't get anything wrong. - The mind maps have a flaw where it's very easy to figure out what should be connected without thinking - not going to spoil the game for others but the developers should address this. - The characters and plot are boring. There's no tension. Everything is bland and uninteresting.

If you are Porot fan - play this game !

I red the other reviews and I just don't believe people saying they love the books, but didn't like the game because it's boring. This is really Hercule Poirot's simulator. You do what is hidden in all the books. There you get the answers in the ned and here you see how you come to all the conclusions. An of course the Grand FInale of getting everyone together and explaining what happened is also viewed from the other side. After Disco Elysium and Forgotten City I was looking for another great story-focused game with non-typical characters. And I finally found another one not only story-focused, but also based on my favourite detective of all time. If there will be another game in the series - I'll buy it instantly. Kudos to the developers ! They really caught the Agatha Christie style. P.S. If you are asking why is there so many dialogues between characters in this game, you obviousely haven't read Agatha Christie's books.

Enjoyable

I love Christie, and I'm always interested in adaptations of her work. I normally wait for games like this to get a price cut, but I couldn't resist. I haven't played very far into the game yet, but I'm enjoying it. The plot and characters of the first case feel like a Christie short story from the 20s or 30s, so I think the developers do actually know the source material. The presentation is nice and polished. The mind maps and evidence gathering remind me a little of the Phoenix Wright series. Judging by the number of "Collectables" in the menu, it looks like there's going to be plenty of content.
