From what I heard, that mainly just auto-deletes a spam post if enough people mark it as spam.

A little red flag near the bell icon is likely easier to spot for staff in their dashboard/etc than wherever the "mark as spam button data" gets shunted to.

I sometimes get 8-10 PMs on some days, and the PM window just places them into one nice (and easy to sort through) little screen. Besides that, I am guessing (like with other forum things) not many bother reporting things like spam, so the staff likely wouldn't be overwhelmed with reports.
