Elmofongo: So I have been playing Vanilla World of Warcraft on a private server (Not telling which and where to get it mind you)

Because I really, truly, wanted to see the world of Azeroth before the Catacylsm.

I got my character to level 30 and so far I learned some sad truths:

1. Paladins were not viable tanks for raiding. And I love Paladins and want to be a tank.

2. 2 enemies can kill you if you solo quest.

3. It takes FOREVER to get a mount.

4. Each Zone only has 1 flightpath. There is no flight path from say Goldshire to Stormwind. (Yes in Current WOW there is)

But the world pre cata is Beautiful. Westfall, Loch Lodan, Stranglethorne Vale, Stormwind City

Everything just felt right. This feels like the continuation of Warcraft 3 I was looking for.

nmorello11: I've been playing Vanilla wow on Nostalrius (for those of you who want to play Vanilla. It's highly populated and free). There's nothing illegal about playing it so long as they do not charge for it.

I wanted to give my 2 cents about.

TL;DR Vanilla WoW is a better, harder, and more challenging game than retail WoW is

Yeah, there are things that you and I both wish Vanilla had that are in the current retail version (your example of flight paths, as well as there being fewer graveyards).

And yeah, Pallys being unable to tank is kind of a bummer. I love tanking, so I rolled a prot warrior, and am loving it just as much as my retail prot pally.

Although i really like the idea that 2 enemies being able to kill you. It's one of the things that makes the game a challenge (something sorely lacking in retail), and if 2 guys (or murlocs) gang up on you in a real fight, you're going to have a much harder time.

And yes, getting a mount does take forever (Level 40, which takes a lot longer to get to in vanilla than it does in retail)...but it makes you appreciate getting that mount a lot more than retail does. I have something like 170ish mounts in retail, ranging from all the racial mounts to the phoenix that drops in TK, and honestly, I feel less connected to them than I do to my plain 60%speed horse. I feel like I worked towards getting my one horsey, and that I earned it. So I feel that decreasing the amount of mounts in game, as well as it taking a lot longer to get a mount, is actually a good thing.

What I like most about vanilla is that it puts the social aspect back into a game that centers around playing with other people. In retail, you can get into LFR with 25 other random people, and everyone works in silence, or if someone does talk, it seems to be about something negative. But if I'm running a 5 man dungeon, we WILL talk because communication is necessary. Also, I have yet to encounter someone being a complete a**hole (cocky yes, a**hole no), because 1)It takes a lot longer to get a group together, and players are not as easily replaceable and 2.)You will probably be playing with these same people some time in the future, and being an a**hole will hurt you in the long run.

So to conclude, this pre cata world IS beautiful. It's nice to see my favorite zone, Tanaris, returned to its original glory!

My character is Beccaria, and I play on the PVP server. Add me to friends if you ever want to play, or need a tank. I'll be happy to help.
Nostalrius sucks.

Kronos WOW is the most faithful and quality made blizzlike Private server I have ever played:

I mean look at this trailer for Blackwing Lair:

This is a thing? It's tempting as I have good memories of beautiful vanilla, but at the same time I know I can't install it ever again.

I'm very much in disagreement about Nostalrius sucking. I haven't played Kronos, but from what I've heard, Nostalrius is more populated and more stable.

Yes, that trailer for BWL is pretty cool...but we all know trailers can be deceiving <Cough> Colonial Marines! <Cough> Watch_Dogs <Cough, Cough>.

On the real though, as far as BWL and all raids in general go, Nostalrius offers the same exact product as Kronos does. You could easy just replace where it says "Kronos" at the end with "Nostalrius".

I have done my research on both servers and so far Kronos is the superior server.

Stop spreading false information please.

Playing or owning private servers is against Blizzard's terms of agreement.

Q: Does Blizzard Entertainment® allow or support other Battle.net® like or emulation servers? Can I host one of these rogue servers?
No. Except as set forth in the next paragraph, Blizzard Entertainment® does not support or condone network play of its games anywhere but Battle.net®. Also thanks for mentioning a server by name man, completely going against what I hoped would not happened.

So don't post direct links to any server.

Ok so, watching the Nostalrius and Kronos reviews, something to note is that they came out shortly after Nostalrius launched (I believe Kronos launched around the same time). The server crashes (as well as the bugs that I haven't encountered) have been fixed, and I haven't encountered a crash in about a month (I restarted playing the game at about that time, but originally started playing in May). Also to note is that Nostalrius has 8800 people on right now as I type.

Also, and admittedly I could be wrong about this, but why is a level 3 flagged for pvp on Kronos? I thought you had to be level 5 for that?

Another bug that he fails to notice on Kronos that he noticed on Nostalrius is that the pets are marked as hostile. In the background when he is in Northshire, you can see a warlock's imp marked in red.

And what gives with the Defias traitor LEEROYing! everything?

Finally, a major flaw in your argument is that you generalize that everything must be true about a group based on one person's account. Have you yourself played on Nostalrius? If so, when?
I've gotten you put on notice twice for harassment already Tauto. Keep it up.
Is there a way to play WOW alone and without really having to deal with other people?
I am corrected. Yes, hosting a private server is illegal. I had previously thought that so long as you were not charging for it, that it wasn't.

However, what I should say is that so long as you're not trying to profit off of Blizzard's creation, Blizz PROBABLY will not shut you down. God knows how many lesser known private servers there are out there.

My conclusion to this argument is that the best way to know which is server is better is to try both of them yourself. Maybe I'd like the other one better, maybe I won't. Maybe you'd like the other one better, maybe you won't.

And I am sorry for naming the server names if you wanted them to remain anonymous. If it's any comfort, both servers are pretty well known, and the videos you posted will most likely be seen by more people than this thread will. However, if you really wish it, say the word, and we can both go back and change my server to "N" and your server to "K".

And even the most popular private server for WOW has around 100,000 players. And that's small pototoes to threaten Blizzard's game.

The last sub numbers report was around 5,000,000 and for an MMORPG in this day and age that is still alot.

I don't know if there's a way, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a point. I mean, pretty much every single player RPG in existence would be a better choice.

Would you play a single player WOW that plays like say Dragon Age Origins?

It is basically the point of a mmo to play with other people. If you want one where you can do most of the stuff alone and do not have to compete with other players I would recommend Guild Wars 1/Guild Wars 2 or The Secret World. All of those have no or a very flat item progression and give you the possibility to get endgame gear without having to do raids or dungeons if you do not want to. The price for that is that they are quite repetitive and require some grind,

Then it wouldn't be WOW, would it? If you're asking me if I'd play a party-based RPG set in the Warcraft univers... possibly. I'd have to know mroe about it. I don't exactly have the highest of opinions about Blizzard's exploits in recent years. There is no danger of anything like it ever actually happening though.
