That's the best descriptor for this game.

Nearly beating it at the moment and yeah I can see why this game is considered a classic even with all the janky-ness.

The different towns hubs like Santa Monica and Chinatown heavily remind me of they various locations in Fallout 1 and 2 like New Reno and Vault City and NCR City. Where buildings are accessed to find quests and explore dungeons.

And of course this game is an immersive sim like Deus Ex 1 and System Shock 2 so you can tackle situations in anyway you can, guns blazing and such.

World of Darkness setting is cool. Shame so far media depictions beyond the tabletop. I guess its too hardcore for a general/casual audience.
This is a description I'd have certainly never thought of... Fallout 2 looks and plays entirely differently, both are dystopias, F2 postapocalyptic, DX cyberpunk... And, well, I just couldn't stomach F2 and gave up eventually and DX I enjoyed sort of despite its gameplay, or I guess thanks to the fact that it allowed me to ignore the fact that it was primarily a shooter and hardly ever play as such bar sniping.
Bloodlines just oozes atmosphere, has stellar writing, dialogues, characters, a quite insane attention to detail and little things that hardly anyone would say were missing if not included but which add to the experience and immersion since they are...
Quite a mess technically, decent in gameplay, in good part because they tried to do so many different things and therefore couldn't focus enough on any, but such an achievement in artistic terms, and not in the modern artsy game sense (which wasn't even a thing then yet). Overall, a rare piece of, well, content that I'm quite sure I'll always have fond memories of.
As for those sewers, yeah, they're the game's dungeon I guess, in terms of how they play, but still interesting through the notes you find, and how you enter them and, even more so, what you find on the other side make them worth it anyway.

Should have emphasized the comparison with "in terms of Gameplay"

Because gameplay wise that's what Vampire was trying to be imo. Fallout 1 and 2 RPG gameplay with Deus Ex 1's First Person Immersive Sim gameplay.

And yeah atmosphere is lit in this game. I've been listening to the Chinatown theme all day because its that mood.

So... Fallout 2 is the mother and Deus Ex 1 the father, or the other way around?

Either way.

Elmofongo: Either way.
Does that really work?

"Honey, let's have another baby!"
