adaliabooks: Amidst crusades and rebellions throughout Europe I managed to reconquer Ireland from my erstwhile brother. Unfortunately he still holds Dublin (my best county) but I'm working on that.

Before that happened my King died young of illness (thank god!) and left his genius sister as my queen. Who has awesome stats, has had a genius son to pass the kingdom on to and is just generally much better.

So I have my first Queen and rule a united Ireland. I also seem to have reclaimed some counties in Spain and still have a county in Scotland.

I don't hold too much hope of conquering Europe, or even the British Isles thanks to the massive power block of the Holy Roman Empire. So my focus will turn to inheritance by marriage.
I chased the Karlings out of East Francia and it turned into the Kingdom of Germany which now calls for its own Holy Wars every now and then and all those vassals who I placed long ago in East Francia are now keeping THAT King of Germany busy with their revolts and in-fighting :D :D :D Where the Karlings used to be kings they are getting reduced to dukes or counts. I have become the pagan version of the HRE in all but name :D

Also, had two Great Holy Wars and I have since absorbed Hungary and Bulgaria on top of the kings on the fringes of my empire doing some of the annexation work for me :D Speaking of Hungary, the Hungarian king is now ruling over Italy right where the Pope used to sit in Rome and Italy is now fully Orthodox. I can't find the Pope now and he certainly hasn't called any Crusades on me :D

Also, I seriously recommend handing out temple/church titles to only the highest Learning stat people in your realm. It's amazing to see Hungary, for example, turn Slavic pagan in a matter of a couple of years :D

adaliabooks: It would be nice to just be able to declare war whenever you want to and conquer where ever you wanted to. I'm not sure I like the idea of the CBs, they seem to be there just to artificially limit your expansion. I'd prefer if there was a mechanic which said you can go to war whenever you want, but without a valid cause or claim it damages your relationships with other countries and maybe upsets your vassals/citizens.

cw8: You get that in EUIV, very much more robust and flexible warring system compared to CK2. You can declare war without CBs but suffer a hefty penalty to diplomacy and stability. Best thing is you don't need 100% warscore to claim land. Each province has a certain % for u to trade your warscore for, more valuable provinces require more warscore. And you can break up huge blobs and powers in EUIV by releasing nations with warscore, e.g. demand Britain to release Scotland and Ireland as independent states. So massive blobs like CK2's HRE are fair game just the same, though u need multiple wars to break up a big blob.
And you need multiple blobs to break up the Big Blue Blob AKA seriously overpowered France :)

doccarnby: They actually do get a holy order. Every religion has one, but Catholics have, like, eight. You should go for Italy. It can be rough, but if things go well, you can tank the Catholic's MA.

cw8: I like the fact that the Muslims can attack neighbouring counties without fabricating a claim.
Italy's a Karling as well. The moment I declare war on any Karling, all the other Karlings come at me. That essentially means I'm at war with whole of France, Germany and Italy. So unless I'm Genghis Khan, I doubt I can actually pull off any wins :D Not sure why I had no problems with the Karlings on my English campaign when I took the Francias, maybe their line died out, also they can't use Holy Orders on the English. Also no crusades.

I fabricated a claim of southern Ireland and took a province, gonna see if I can steamroll Ireland and take mainland England without the Pope ordering a crusade on me.
Speaking of Geghis Khan...I think I managed to make the Golden Horde bug out or something in my last game :D Way before they came around I conquered a lot of eastern territory. One day, I get the notification that the Golden Horde is coming so I looked up their leader and he was just chilling in one of my cities :) He and I had a high opinion of each other. Meanwhile his huge 90K stack just kind of stood there and dwindled away due to attrition :D

England has a Catholic holy site, so you will probably have a Crusade against you if you take it.

cw8: I'll take every province except that if I can :D
I'll wait till I have excess levies of at least 50k before I dare arggo the Pope. I'm also allied with almost every major Sunni faction including the Caliph right now. :D
Do Muslims get the 80% defensive bonus when fighting on home ground like pagans do or no? Figured you could just lure them into your territory and smack the Pope's armies upside the head.

Speaking of the Pope, I can't find the Pope in my game. Italy's been taken over by an Orthodox dynasty (no, not the Byzantine empire). I guess it kind of had to happen since I chased the original Hungarians into Italy, deblobbed my current empire to form the Carpathian Empire as I've never seen it in the game before plus it helps to have a fellow Emperor-level ally at all times (thanks to being of the same dynasty and all :D).

Also, have you ever seen what happens when you take Constantinople from the Byzzies? They go into quite the tizzy :D Once they lost Constantinople, the Byzzies start this weird thing where they change their capital every chance they get. I am currently cracking them open in revenge for the 7 holy wars they waged against ME for some of "their" de jure territory :D
