EndreWhiteMane: Switzerland is 41,285 km², Iowa is 145,743 km².

I agree, I HATED Chicago. When I moved here it was about 75,000, which seemed tiny.
The airport was hilarious, you actually could walk to your plane, no busses. :-)

ElTerprise: Well I can refer to atleast german definitions and iirc there are some international conventions as well (but there quite old. From 1887 i guess) which means that there are about 1750 large cities worldwide. The next larger type would be a megacity which is from 1 Million upwards (300 wordldwide). Yay that's my topic :)

EndreWhiteMane: Chicago, which is 5 hours away is 2.719 million without the 'suburbs', we're pretty small. :-)

We actually are quite huge for Iowa, 2nd largest in the state.
Thing is Iowa has 99 counties and LOTS of smaller towns.

It's okay. Usually every country uses slightly different definitions. And the german one is quite detailled - quelle surprise ;)

Edit: But probably 250,000 might be a better threshold for a big city which would equal the upper centre in the Central Place Theory :).

Yup. Excluding Russia, it's the biggest country in Europe population wise :). But we only have 4 cities with over one million inhabitants (which a re 4/5 of all german-speaking cities with over one million inhabitants).

Nah, it is not that bad ;-)
Of course it might also relate to the country you are living in, but I never experienced people being nosy.

Aside from people working in spatial or urban planning and those wo had that in geography you're probably right :).

Ah yes. That could actually happen. Since if I remember it right, you do not have a driver licence, right? And with the horrible German public transport in the small towns, you would probably catch the first available train to a larger city :D

Probably. The town where I grew up was not like that. You really had your privacy.

Yes. I don't have driver's licence. Didn't need one as of yet :).
Well my problem would be that this place are just too small. I need an urban atmosphere - even the quite suburban district i'm currently living has about 23,000 inhabitants and it's not urban enough for me :)
