Your weapon is the lethal Planet Runner which can navigate any terrain and strike with devastating firepower. You mission is to cleanse the planet from alien forces and restore order.
Save your species as you engage in fast-paced mechanized combat in the single-player campaign containing 50 adrenaline-pounding missions and arm your Planet Runner with blazing firepower - over 25 armaments, including gatling guns, guided missiles, fuel-air mortars and plasma cannons.

Many people forget this game.
They forget that it is the first game with a truly destructible environment.
They forget that it influenced all mech-style games which came after.... full review
In a dead genre, this was the first truly amazing game. Surpassed by games which followed of course, but the defining title of it's time. If you enjoyed other greats in the genre; Mechwarrior 3 & 4; Earthsiege 1 & 2; you will LOVE this game.
I will admit I am biased, this was my first 'favorite game' and I have tried to find a working copy of the full version for years. But that's what this site is about, the greatest games of yesteryear.
Shattered Steel is a real old horse in the mech simulation genre. More similar to the Earthsiege style of combat than the Mechwarrior series, it employs the good old voxel engine for the landscape and rather good 3D models for the game mechanics.
The pre-configured dosbox emulation runs surprisingly smooth on Win XP, with occasional screen resolution problems.
The story... full review evolves around a biomechanical alien invasion on a mining world, where the protagonist is a mercenary on defense mission. The storyline is good with a few surprising twists, interesting mission design, and customizable vehicles.
The sound and music are high quality and immersive. Good voice-acting during briefing and missions.
The game is a good buy for all of you waiting for a Mech action game.
