Absolutely mind-bending

This is a great trilogy and the price is unbeatable. The first Gobliiins game is quite hard because your little team shares a life bar and every injuring action empties it a bit. The problem is that doing the wrong actions is half the fun of these games. The goblins get hurt and the complain to you about sending them into these traps. It's hilarious. Gobliins 2 gets rid of the bar and you can try everything out without worrying. You get 5 jokers in case you get stuck that will help you complete a screen. Especially the later levels require exact timing which can get quite frustrating. Goblins 3 is by far the best part in the series. You get different partners with different abilities and all the puzzles are logical. The voice overs in the games are quite quirky, but they really fit the crazy characters and the overall funny tone of the games. If you like adventures, you really shouldn't miss out on the Gobliiins. Too bad that Goblins 4 was such a let down. But if GOG gets Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth, be sure to check it out. It's the unofficial sequel to these games.

MY BRAIN HURTS! And in a good way too!

The series created by Pierre Gilhodes are possibly one of the most twisted adventure games out there. Gobliiins pack takes you into a surreal fantasy world, where you guide your goblins through a series of twisted puzzles to achieve a goal - whether it's to save the king, the prince or the reunite two kingdoms. The Gobliiins series were always known for it's beautiful and lively graphics, lots of little details added there and there and most importantly - hard to guess puzzles. Take that as a warning adventure game fans - most of the rooms will leave you wondering for days what to do. Quick wit and quick hand is required for some of the puzzles! Nevertheless the games shine through their unique humor and visuals. A must have for every respected adventure game fan. Now let's hope that GOG will release Gilhodes' magnum opus - Wodruff and Schnible of Azimuth

Wonderfully twisted

When I saw that GOG released that, I couldn't resist, I had to buy them. Then, after installing the games and playing them, I was almost in trance. Then was the most difficult part, trying to remember what I did several years ago to solve the games. It's really funny to see that some hidden memories can come back after such a long time! But, I have to admit one thing, the CD version of Gob3, is not as good as the floppy version. issues with background music and so on, but it's still enjoyable! When will we have the schnibble?

Crazy gameplay

Since the series evolved a bit, I'll start with reviewing the first one and then go on about the sequels. You take control of three simple-minded goblins on a quest to help the king. Apart from walking, each one has managed to grasp only one ability: the warrior can punch stuff, the technician carry things (one object at a time!) and the magician can cast spells. Spells with wild, unforeseen effects, mind you, but it's still magic. This happy-go-lucky bunch must get through a series of rooms, each consisting of one screen of objects (and beings) to interact with. The gameplay is mostly trial and error - many puzzles are wacky, often thanks to our friend the magician - but this game makes it fun. Even if you'll find the right solution quickly, you'll want to come back and check out what happens if you do the wrong things... And since the set-up is simple, so there aren't that many possibilities to try out. There is a flaw with this system - by some inexplicably stupid decision, there is an 'energy meter' in the game that goes down with every bad decision, and when it reaches 0 it's game over. And it carries between levels. And there's just one opportunity in the game to recharge it. It's baffling why they included it. It's not a crippling problem though, since the levels are short and you can always come back to the start of the current one. The story is good - for such a simple game - the characters are bizarrely interesting and the graphics are great, if you like the unique style. The sequels moved away from this simplicity and more towards usual point-and-click adventures, with normal inventory etc., but still remained enjoyable and funny, part 3 is probably my favorite. They are harder, too - there are more items, the characters aren't as clear cut, and some puzzles span multiple screens. While there is an in-game hint system, it doesn't cover everything, so a walkthrough may be needed. Bottom line: If you like the wackiness and don't mind some trial and error, give it a try.

The greatest little goblins of them all

When i first bought Gobliiins pack because of my childhood memories of the games, i was afraid, i will be disappointed. After all, many years, filled with adventure games, have passed. What if Goblins games were not as fun and funny as i remembered them to be. The fact, that newer Goblins 4 game was a bit of a letdown didn't help either. But i was wrong. Well, partially wrong, anyway. Gobliiins does use an archaic and stupid "lives" system, and it doesn't help, that you rarely know if your actions will "hurt" goblins or not. The fact, that the game didn't have saves and instead used passwords, also makes the experience a bit annoying. Still, it's a very funny game that looks good even today. Now, the main game you should be interested in, is Gobliins 2. It got saves, lost "lives", got multi-screen levels and became even more fun and funny. And while you might be tempted to try the "talking" CD version, i advise you to play the floppy version. The "goblinish" language makes the game even funnier than it is on itself. Goblins quest 3 is also a good game. It's also best played in the floppy version variant and is also funny. But the problem with it is, that it's "puzzles" are more annoying, it's animations, while funny, are too long, so if you do something wrong, you'll spend several seconds just looking and the character doing something "funny". In the end, despite trying to be a better game than the first two, it's much less fun to play than the second game. But every game in the pack is worth trying, and even if it wasn't like that, Gobliins 2 would be worth it alone. No go and hit yourself in the head with a sausage, if you didn't buy the pack already.
