Set in the aftermath of a world-wide nuclear war, Fallout will challenge you to survive in an unknown and dangerous world. You will take the role of a Vault-dweller, a person who has grown up in a secluded, underground survival Vault. Circumstances arise that force you to go Outside - to a strange world 80 years after the end of modern civilization. A world of mutants, radiation, gangs and violence.
Your immediate task is to find a replacement for the broken water purification controller chip. Without that chip, your fellow Vault dwellers are doomed to dehydration or will be forced to leave the safety of the Vault for the Outside.
The core of the game revolves around your character. Fallout uses a skill-based system to allow you to fine tune your character. As you gain experience (roughly half from combat, the other half from solving adventure seeds and non-combat events), your character will grow as you determine. Combat in Fallout is tactical turn-based. You can take as much time as you need to make decisions. Choose from different types of attacks, with a variety of weapons and attack skills.

A fantastic RPG game set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with survivors, mutants and interesting locations, considered by many to be the best game in history. One of its key features are dark humor and various pop-culture references. The game sends the player on a quest to save his home – Vault 13. We start by creating a character and even here Fallout shows us the variety... full review of choices it gives us – there are no preset professions or character classes. We can be both a natural born orator and merchant who can sell anything and a scientist-sniper – no profession is given preferential treatment. Another innovation is that the statistics we chose at the beginning don't change a lot during the game – if we started off as a wimp, a wimp is what we will be at the end of the game. Fallout puts the emphasis on skills and it's these that we will be developing the most.
During his journey our hero (or heroine) will travel the war-torn America and will be faced with many challenges along the way. These can be finished in many ways, and when I say many I actually mean A LOT, since most quests have many solutions and endings. Speaking of quests you must remember that there is a lot of them as well! At least quite a few main ones and a couple of sub-quests. Additionally every conversation can be carried out in a couple of ways, depending on how smart we are, how much we know and what we want to obtain. Combat is made in a turn-based system using action points.
Fallout is a game with a rich world and countless possibilities. Personally I believe that every gamer should play it until the end at least once. I definitely recommend this game to everyone!
Fallout is one of the few games that can truly be called a classic. Modern games today fare poorly to what Fallout provides. The most noticeable aspect of this game is the amount of wit and humor that is added into it. Depending on the stats you set for your character, you can be anything from a downright idiot who is unable to talk coherently to a witty and clever adventurer.... full review Both are entertaining, and it provides a great deal of replayability to the game as it constantly changes depending on your stats. Although it seems a little slow at the start, the game picks up quickly and becomes addicting with a well written story line, and characters you will not forget.
This game is a must for any RPG lover, or someone looking for an introduction to the genre.
Eleven years old - and 10 times better that than the vast majority of games produced today

Playing this game has been a revelation.... full review
I'd heard of it but, not being much of a fan of RPGs, had never bothered to pick it up. The recommendations on GoG (to say nothing of the price) were too much to resist so here I am.
And if you ever needed an illustration of why shiny graphics should take second place to gameplay, Fallout is it. The depth of the game is incredible but I can honestly state I have not studied the manual once.
In fact, learning the ins-and-outs is part of the enjoyment. The game has everything: great combat, humour, fun challenges, decent stability, is astonishingly immersive, and, above all, is wonderfully non-linear. To be honest, at the moment I don't give a toss whether Vault 13 get their water chip. I'm having too much fun.
