Two great tactical action strategy games, set against the backdrop of World War II where you take control of an elite group of Commandos who must venture deep into enemy territory to complete a series of mission based objectives.
Prepare to take the Commandos on their deadliest mission yet as you infiltrate deep behind enemy lines across three extensive campaigns. From the frozen ruins of Stalingrad through to the forests of central Europe and onto the beaches of Normandy, your men must use their skills to confound the enemy.
These men are the best the Allies have - are you fit to lead them?

Be warned - this is a gamer's game. Commandos 2 is the game that makes you love the quicksave option, but it really becomes a feature when you figure out the huge number of strategic possibilities. Some say it's a hard game, but with 10 heroes under your command, it's just as easy to eliminate every enemy one by one as to lure them all in a single room, where your men will be waiting... full review with full gunpower.
I bought Commandos 2 when it first came out, and was absolutely overwhelmed by this game. The character design, along with the strong acting, beautiful environments and epic music create an atmosphere that you simply can't forget. Most of the levels are designed after a classic WWII movie - Private Ryan tank scene? check! Bridge on the River Kwai? check! etc... And you're not done by the end of the game, until you unlocked every bonus level (and they're just as good as the big ones)
To sum up, Commandos 2 is a huge improvement over the original formule - everything that lacked in the previous game is now available, and nothing was left out. It is a classic that you should own.
Why did I focus on Commandos 2? Simply because the third game, sadly, removes characters and keyboard shortcuts (why?) from the second, and adds at the same time a bad mouse interface, time limits and hardcore sniper levels. You'll want to come back to the majesty of Commandos 2 in a few minutes.
It's 1942. WW2 is in full swing. The Nazis have invaded most of Europe, and without your help, they will take over the world... full review
Commandos 2 and 3 are two of the finest games I have ever played in my time as a gamer. You control a team of commandos in an epic struggle against the Third Reich. Don't be fooled; though you may be a crack, intelligent and strong squad, things can still go awry....
Immediately, you're plopped onto the batlefield, and using observation and planning, you can exceute moves to eliminate your nemies and achieve objectives. The important thing to remember s that Commandos 2 and 3 are not like a run-and-gun shooter; the play must have a high level of patience and the nerve to reattempt a mission after your 3rd go (belive me, it will happen)
Through inventories, abilities and tactics, you can do certain things. For example, you can disguise yourself as a Nazi officer. Some characters have special abilities, e.g. the Green Beret is able to swing around walls and use telephone wires to shimmy across. With these, quite obviously, come disadvantages to each character. For xample, the thief will not be able to execute certain kill moves and use sophisticated weaponry.
Here's a summary:
The Good:
-Graphics may not be modern, but they manage to do their job really well and compliment the gameplay (especially in number 3 with its 3D engine)
-Gameplay is immersive, deep and challenging
-The gameplay offers you several solutions to problems such as either avoiding or killing guards
-Varying levels with increasing difficulty
-Excellent voice acting which represents each character really well
The Bad:
-Tedious to a point of screaming-one mistake and you're out
-The game lives for the gameplay-this title isn't recommended to people who prefer story-driven games
-Micromanagement can be a pain
The Ugly:
No uglies
I'd highly recommend this game to anyone, and it's well worth the purchase for Commandos 2 alone.
All the pour souls that were crying themselves to sleep because they beat Commandos: BEL for the tenth time, finally got a chance for sometnig new. With Commandos 2, Pyro found all the bad choices they made in Commandos: BEL, and fixed them with no second thought.... full review
The basic idea is still the same, but with a few concept changes. First, and most important, your comrades can be resurrected using a first aid kit, which eases the game way too much, because dying is no longer an issue. As you can assume, that makes the sequel twenty times easier then the first game. That is the only thing I can really hold against this game.
That being said, there are some more crew members (a small, fast-as-a-bullet guy, and his pit bull), and also, the crew members' restrictions have been minimized. Everyone can throw a grenade now, use any type of weapon, swim or dive ('cept the diver is the only one with a scuba gear)...
As for the technicalities, kudos to the spanish guys. Every possible aspect has been largely improved. The map can be rotated, player characters can stand guard(stand, crouch or crawl),
