HYPERVIOLENT is a brutal, old-school FPS in the style of classic sprite-based 3D games from the 1990s. After responding to a distress signal from Commodus Asteroid 27-C, a remote mining colony, you find yourself in the midst of an outbreak of violence among its inhabitants. You must unravel the secrets of the asteroid and the evil hidden deep within its mines as you seek an answer to the madness within its complex corridors.

 

 

Obliterate your foes with an extensive array of guns and melee weapons that can be dual-wielded in nearly endless combinations, and take the VIOLENCE to the next level. You are far from an invincible action hero however - manage your resources carefully, and be ever vigilant, for enemies can ambush you when you least expect it.

Pretty good so far, but needs some work

This is basically a System Shock-ish retro FPS with a bit of Descent thrown in. I'm just over 2 hours in and these are my thoughts so far. Pros: - Nails the visual style it was going for. - The drizzle of immersive sim elements are welcome. - The ability to use two different weapons at the same time. - Modifying a weapon changes the appearance of said weapon. - Atmosphere can be chilling on certain levels. Cons: - Ranged weapons seem underpowered and some have awful spread. - Hitscanning enemies. - Enemy AI boils down to them walking in a straight line towards you. I've seen plenty of enemies simply walk into walls. - Weapons don't feel or sound punchy or meaty enough.

Really good ideas with unbalanced difficulty

I was really enthralled by this game. It has a great atmosphere, good sound effects, strong level design, and a lot of attention to detail. The intro is meticulously crafted and every room is well-thought out. The developers resisted the common temptation to turn things into a mindless shoot-fest and packed the game with interactive computer terminals, puzzles, and even encounters with NPCs. The monsters feel like a lot of thought and effort was put into them. The artwork is superb - there are a TON of beautiful hand drawn sprites in this game, both for the enemies and even for the bodies littering the station. There are many special touches here, including even having flies start buzzing around corpses after a short time! However, the gameplay is rather frustrating, which kind of spoils things. I am quite familiar with this kind of game and I started it on "Normal". But here it was nearly impossible to make progress - even on level 1, the enemies with guns can drain your health extremely quickly, while your guns have almost no effect on them. You have very limited ammo and health, and save points are relatively scarce. So things are very challenging - for me, nearly impossible. When I learned headshots were possible (a surprise!) it made things a bit easier, but even if you aim accurately it's all up to random chance whether it is effective or not, so it doesn't help that much. I changed it to the lower difficulty (casual) but then things were way too easy - there is tons of ammo and health and enemies don't put up much of a fight at all, making progressing through the game feel almost like cheating. So there are a lot of balance issues to address. There are also some serious bugs - when reloading a save, often the audio will drop out with no way to get it back. And upon completing one level I was jettisoned into outer space with no walls, floors or ceilings and nowhere to go. Hopefully the developers can fix these issues - if so it could be a gem!

Not what i had expected

This game is a bit of a suprise to me, from the storepage i thought this was your typical doomlike waveshooter, but its actually a poor man's System Shock and not a bad one either. The weapons are meaty and got some cool graphics, very pleased on that front, the sprites and the gore are also very good, the rest is default mode for that genre, you hunt keycards and codes for keypads, nothing new to see here. Now the not so good stuff: Its very linear and has no manual saves outside of fixed points, also the levels are not as decorated as they could be and there is no map (at least i havent found one), but those are only minor complaints. The only real downside is that the difficulty levels scale very badly, on the lowest one (Casual) the game is very good, you got plenty of ammo and you can take a beating but the next difficulty is like a hundred times harder, you run out of ammo and medkits constantly, fighting for your life in melee all the time, very frustrating. So to sum things up: Stick to Casual difficulty and you will have a very good time in this suprisingly well made game.

has some glitches and with the monitor hand, also the textures look a tad bit unpolished. However, I LOVE the game, very immersive and scary. Wish the gun were a bit more punchy though. Overall, a good early access title.

Graphics are intentionally blurry

Hate to beat up the little guy, but the momentnyou accept cash, you take on the burden of critique. I will say a few nice things before the bad. 1)The feel of the controls is pretty sharp. Perhaps mouse sensitivity may be adjusted if you prefer. But everything has a good feel to it. I kinda really want a crouch and sneak control, but Im guessing thats not in the cards. The game REALLY gives you the impression it should, but doesnt. 2)The cross between System Shock and free game Blade of Agony is not half bad. They mixed it with a bit less in items, but did a "lite" version of this combo. The story elements seem thin, but its reasonable. The Bad: Much of the graphics seem like it was copied and pasted all over, without much to make the levels seem different from one area to the next. I really dont like going through tight areas in a game that look maze like. Image your house built in this manner. You wouldnt want to live in it if it designed this way. The levels should have been made better to suit an environment people would use. It would have been more creepy, than a claustrophobic design. Because if you felt comfortable in a "normal" work place where everyone went nuts. It would have been more impactful. 2) The most severe problem I have with the game, is the blur filter. There does not seem any way to have the pixel graphics, JUST be pixelated. In fact its so bad, that I cant even play the game without getting a headache. Its to bad. It may be ok or it may not be, if the blur had an option to turn it off. But after 20 minutes, I literally cannot play further without being harmed by the effect. I waited for the completion of the game, only to find the problem to much to continue playing.
