It's good for what it is

It's sounds unfair even as I type this, but you need to be a in a mood or certain state of mind to enjoy this game. Just like I need to be in a certain mood to play shooters or strategy, you need that certain mindset to enjoy Gone Home. I understand why so many people don't like this, but it hit the spot for me. And that's almost the best I can do. There was no grand story, no giant mystery to uncover. I simply walked room to room and felt like I was in someone else's home. Going through their life, feeling a bit spooked about what was in the next room. Reading about your sister. I didn't need much of an explanation. I just enjoyed what was in front of me. I would agree it's a bit overpriced, which is why this isn't getting 5 stars. They need to offer more for what's given here. Get it on sale, eat an edible or have a smoke and just relax with the atmosphere.

Game Quickie

I felt entertained. The game is overrated and short, but for 4 Euros it is totally ok. I liked crawling through the Greenbriars Household and throug the Stories of its inhabitants. And yes, there other games for that price which are better. And the Delvelopers could have done much better,

Not a Game

Like another reviewer said, this isn't a game. This is a short "find the key" experiment with a bad story driving it along. There are no puzzles. There is no challenge. There are no obstacles to overcome. No skill or thought is necessary to complete it. This isn't a game.

A Study in World Building

This game is quite polarizing, and I'm one of those who falls into the positive camp. Yes, it is quite short and the gameplay is overly simplistic even for an adventure game, but this little gem transcends all that with its story and atmosphere. The story starts out feeling like a murder mystery or even a supernatural horror game, but as it progresses it turns out to be a much more personal and engaging story about growing up and finding oneself that will keep you mesmerized until the very end. The immersion is helped greatly thanks to the loving recreation of the 90s that game takes place in and the fascinating side stories you can investigate as you go. I took off a star because of the length. It's hard to justify even a $10 price tag for three hours of game play (5-6 if you look into the side content), so wait for it to go on sale to get the best bang for the buck. Despite its faults, the heart warming story and incredibly detailed, nostalgia-laden setting make this game so much more than so many of the reviews here make it out to be.

Slow burn

This game was an interesting experience for me as I went in expecting a horror. The game does cultivate a bit of a horror element, so I kept waiting for the jump scares. After a while though, I began to realise the game was more about unfolding a larger story. If you're the kind of person who skips through dialogue in games, this probably isn't the one for you. But if you like the idea of being a detective, and piecing together random elements to create a bigger whole, then this game is for you.
