I really enjoyed the demo, but playing the full game, after a few hours, some things hit you:
The music is really quite bad.
Some of the events are nonsensical. Like, one of the 3 social groups, lets say the workers, are slightly tense and on edge, so they decided to launch a full on riot?
The cylon deduction section looks great. But it doesn't function great. You cannot clear someone, by following the infantile rules of deduction, you actually have to fully clear someone of all suspicion markers. Which means, you as a player (playing the captain, the despotic leader of this group of survivors) can know 100% that based on the really underwhelming rules, your CAG is the cylon. But until you find the resources to investigate her suspicion tokens, she remains free.
Random bs happens all the time, so much so, you don't even care about reading all the flavour text that comes with it.
And then there's the difficulty curve. It's so poorly balanced. The first 7/12 jumps are so easy, you wish they could be skipped. But no. They still take 2 or 3 hours to clear properly. Jumps 8-11 are fine, challenging but with a bit of experience you can still clear them without many losses. And then there's the final boss fight, which launches the difficulty up 10 levels. So if you're gonna lose, it will be after 5h of playtime. Yay.
The tech tree is kinda boring and the correct choices there are kinda obvious, so it's just a question of when will you find enough scrap to get the squadron numbers up and the HPs up.
If this was early access, I'd be fine with most those things, but it's a full release?!
It can still be fun and nice, the BSG theme is... it's not really coming across that strongly, although I do like how, similarly to the early seasons, you often get this thing, where just before the main devastating wave hits you, you get your FTL jump ready, and can see how the nukes and other missiles that were moments from hitting you, instead fly through the empty space.
