For DOS games - if they're SCUMVM - also include original files!
100% -- I've recently picked up a 386 system hoping to play my GOG DOS collection on it, and was disappointed to find out that more than half aren't complete and executable on a real DOS system. I won't buy any more DOS games on GOG until this is resolved!
Always include original files regardless.
+1
If you are buying a DRM free copy of the game, it should include all files from the release.
I too would like all the original files included. Bought a game from GOG that uses Scummvm, and was confused at first when I didn't see the original executables in the installed folder. Please include these, GOG...I don't feel like I've received a complete game when there are files missing.
I have a collection of old DOS games that I've installed from original floppies. I have those configured to run nicely in DOSBox. I'd like to add as much of my GOG library to that as I can, as well. That way I have my games in one place/UI.
I like to customize my experience via DOSBox and much prefer the interface to SCUMMVM. I'm fine with the SCUMMVM being the default installation, but please include all the original files so that I can choose to run via DOSBox
I also bought the games in hope that the executables are in the installation to play them on real MSDOS6.22. Pls get the executable files back. Thank you!
I'm another that buys games on GOG to play on actual DOS computers. Not including these exe files means I still have to go try to find a copy of the game from less legit places.
Oh please do. Some of the scalers on dosbox variants are so nice. I guess the issue is that it's easier getting those games to work in Scumm rather than emulated MSDOS.
i come from CGG on FB and i second this
yes please. pretty please. I am never going to buy any game from gog if they do not give original files
Yes please. For those few of us that have actual period hardware this would be most welcome.
Optimum would be an IMG of floppy disks and ISO/BIN of CDs.
Adding the original installation media and fulfilling this wish would be a low hanging fruit for GOG. They already have the images and making them available on their servers would be as easy for them as copying the files there and calling it a day. And they wouldn't require any further maintenance later since they aren't going to change even one single bit.
For an example of a ScummVM game that is missing all the normal files is Legend of Kyrandia.
Yes, please!
There are some fan patches that require the EXACT contents (sometimes of specific versions) of the original media, or else the patches will not install. Space Quest IV is a good example of one such game which has some good fan patches, however, you cannot use them with the files supplied by GOG.
Totes mcgotes.
Yes, Please!
Oh, yes! Please!
Agree.
This. Yes please!
GOG- you already have the files since most or all of the games were originally packaged for DOSBox, so please consider adding them back, even if just in the offline/backup copy (which btw should be offered as a zip instead of an .exe for Mac users). I enjoy playing these games on original machines such as a 486 so the DOSBox files are critical!
Yes, please!
Yes please!
I would like to have all the files so I have the option of choosing whatever DOS environment is available to me.
Also just realized, you can't record with ScummVM without using third party software, as opposed to just having that functionality already built into DosBox... which is another reason to include all of the files; so for those of us who play and do playthroughs on Youtube, we can use DosBox... forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=5889
The whole point of GOG is to make great older games accessible on machines they weren't originally intended to run on. If you make them only install-able on Windows, it just moves them from one platform to one other, and they are still inaccessible to many. Please, include the original files with DosBOX configs.
I really expect this to happen, since I played all.of.my dos games in real hardware
Yes, this has been frustrating me a lot, lately. I'd like to be able to run some of these games from DOSBox on a non-Windows machine, and the lack of this feature makes this impossible, for seemingly no good reason. I'd really prefer not to go through a whole WINE rigmarole for each game.
Very good and helpful, and also important for historical and archival purposes. Keep gaming history alive!
Yes please!!!! I run an old Windows 98SE machine for retro gaming and would LOVE to be able to play my GOG games on there!!!
I'm sure I'm not the only one!
I cannot AGREE MORE!!! This is really bad approach limiting people to single platform when the buyer is actually after something else. It's not like the rest of the files could be *any* kind of a problem to include. And I swear if I actually happen to buy such limiting product like this I will demand refund.
I completely agree with waht SirTawmis said. Technically we don't buy a possibility to play a classic game but in fact the WHOLE classic game and there's nothing in any game discription that is informing the customer about missing files and wich these missing files are. So please include the full game files. If you would want to prevent people from downloading too much at least make them optional extras.
Yes. Give us a choice. It's not always the best experience to play via SCUMMVM. And lack of the original files prevent those, who still have DOS-capable computers, from playing games natively.
Agreed!
It's not just DOSBox either, I try to run these on original hardware when possible, and as said earlier, it takes very little on your part to include the original files as an extra...then it's up to us to "make it work" the way we want
Make it ORIGINAL INSTALL while you are at it GOG!
Another way to look at it is when we purchase the game from GOG, we're expecting the full game; and not to have files missing that were a part of the original. It's great if SCUMMVM works with these packages, but for those that would rather use DOSBOX, having these files is critical. Ensuring all files are included does NOT impact SCUMVM's ability to function, and it barely adds ANYTHING to the file size.
Great suggestion, MAKE IT HAPPEN GOG please.
Yes, please.
