I had quit buying retail boxed games when it became to difficult to avoid sloppy voice/text localizations. Digital downloads were a way to safely get the original version for each game, as they are usually done with much more care. Nowadays, even Steam allows people to eschew alternate languages upon installation. There's however a trend on GOG consisting in installers that impose localized versions, based on the computer's OS settings, without giving the user a chance to choose amongst the available languages - neither before nor after installation.

GOG should stop assuming that all users prefer the local version of a game's texts or voices (and no, we don't only watch re-dubbed movies either). Games that impose, on their own, a language amongst all their available ones, should be either rejected by GOG, or tweaked to allow changes through menus or at least ini settings. Or the GOG installer's selected language itself should determine which version gets installed.

Especially given its original focus on user-managed softwares and the preservation of original gaming experiences, GOG shouldn't be the place offering the least installation options.

We're already aware of your general "if it doesn't affect me then it is not an issue" way of life, and we look forward to your comments when DRM will be enabled only in a few countries. But in the meantime, game designers will have no reason to tweak their language selections for them to stay as functionnal on GOG as on, say, Steam, which will further accumulate GOG games "treating GOG customers like second class customers", as the classic dedicated thread puts it.

Then those, to whom it is a problem, could choose not to buy the game from GOG, but I still could buy it from GOG.

As I explained in the corresponding thread, I personally can't support this vote as it suggests that games which force the language like this should be rejected by GOG. I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to buy the game on GOG, when the issue does not concern me.

However, I could support an initiative to mark it clearly in the gamecard, whether the game language can be freely selected among the supported languages.
