Wasteland completed
The name is Good O-L-D Games. Which part of ,,old" some of us do not get?
Arxide, you could think of buying it as helping to fund Wasteland 2. I don't know if you saw, but there are updated visuals - you can switch between vectorized graphics (which, admittedly, just look like they were run through a few filters in Illustrator) or the original pixelated graphics.
Or, as you said, just wait for Wasteland 2. That's okay.
I agree about the price, but it sounds like you're dismissing the game entirely because of the graphics ("crappy-looking game.") Many excellent games with VERY old graphics are still fun, if you're willing to give them a chance.
It's here
@ mkell_226
I play GOG games for past 4 Years including BG2 and lots of other great titles.
But a 20 year old game? It is classic no doubt but graphics are way too much of any interest.
All I am trying to say is the price not at all justified, infact, it should be a FREE release.
I will not pay for it rather buy Wasteland 2 which is worth for the given price.
Good design, story, and mechanics can make up for lackluster graphics, Arxide, but never the reverse.
Yay got it!
Graphics Suck!.. ewww! no offence but today games need to have good looks to play atleast not pixelated at all.
I thought a total conversion/remake was announced but never mind better wait for Wasteland 2 than playing this crappy looking game!!
4 days to go!
Seriously, we're all waiting :)
Get on with releasing this old masterpiece.
hurry up and approve it already. I want to play.
From their newest update: "The Original Classic has gone Gold and has been submitted to GOG.com and Steam for platform approval."
before Fallout there was Wasteland
So, I just got a backer update from InXile, claiming that they'll not only be releasing Wasteland, but also enhancing it, adding optional up-scaled portraits, music and voice overs. And the paragraphs will be fully integrated into the game, so no alt-tabbing out to check an external text file.
And, yes. This will still be free for all Wasteland 2 backers.
You will be my heroes for life if you get this game
Rock on! ^_^
ty for the info mkell_226!
inXile just confirmed in an email update that they will be selling the original Wasteland here on GoG. Huzzah!
I remember playing this classic on the Commodore 128 (in 64 mode) and having one hell of a time with my friend. When I saw that WL2 was coming out I got excited, but then I started to see the direction they are taking the series and I'm kind of turned off. I'd rather play a more true version to the original on the gamepad instead because you know the new mobile devices could run a slightly more upgraded version that the original easily (and then some).
Something about that old simple game in the text based descriptions and coming across new weapons or bandits that made it so great. This is a case where gameplay (and writing) can still win over all other aspects of a game.
My favorite line concerned the fact that Las Vegas was still completely intact after the rest of the work was destroyed because the 'house' had set the odds that Vegas would not get destroyed and 'no one bets against the house'
Hopefully Inexile's remake will not only be as good as the original, but that they will also allow us to buy the original game as well. I would LOVE to buy both games!
Rights reserved inXile. I think the agreement is possible.
I still have this for the Commodore 64! Oh the days of floppy disks...
I never got to play this but I remember it as having the most thoroughly awesome box art I can remember.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
Who exactly owns Wasteland (Game) anyway? Interplay? EA? inXile?
I really need Wasteland before Wasteland 2 gets released. Please? Pretty please with cherry on top?
I am old enough to remember this game as well as all the original Bard's Tale games. The story was wonderful. I would buy it :)
This one was really really fun&challenging. Yet, It is somewhat dated, and I cannot see it becoming a success as a $ costing title. For GoG users who have completed the free Ultima IV and Savage Empire games, this is a great must-get, but for majority of Fallout fans, this game might be a bit too dated and hard to get into. Still like it myself, and would pay it for a 1$.
this game I hear will be released free with purchase of wasteland 2. so maybe we can get both on GOG : )
Maybe with the release of wasteland 2 gog can get this as a free release to promote the release of the sequel. Maybe they could even add the c64 music to the pc version, that could make it perfect and they would not need to rewrite the music, just add support for the Innovation SSI-2001 isa sound card (that was basically a sid 6581 chip on a pc sound card), dosbox already has support for it :)
I've heard a lot about this precursor to Fallout, would love to play it.
Dassie14: "...lately I've been intersted in a whole town of DOS games..." A whole TOWN, you say? I wonder what it would be like to live there? :O
I have neve played wasteland but lately I've been intersted in a whole town of DOS games. I love the Fallout series and I would be interested in playing the game that started the Fallout series
SO this...please GOG PLEASE! lol :P
Here is a link to an overview of InXile's announcement: wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2476
@SkeleTony I suppose that only means they were selling cheap, not making it freeware. Betrayal at Krondor was one of the first full games I saw in magazines down here in Brazil, and it's sold for money here on GOG.
I never got to finish this game when I was younger and would certainly like to own a digital copy for the sake of convenience.
The announcement that this will come with Wasteland 2 might be sign that InXile has liberated this classic from EA's clutches. In which case... let's just hope Wasteland 2 will come out on GOG (Which doesn't seem like a stretch, as it'll be DRM-free directly from InXile).
Its been announced that Wasteland 2 will come with the original, bundled together seems to have been stipulated by EA.
Cannot upvote enough. While I still have a copy (an omnibus of 10 of Interplay's greatest, same CD houses The Bard's Tale amongst other fine old games), the manual was not lucky enough to survive several moves.
This would be cool, but the rights to the game are owned by EA. I'd rather not support that cruel, greedy corporation when I've already backed the upcoming sequel through Kickstarter by the game's original creators, and can feel no guilt downloading an abandonware release.
@RafaelLopez Don't know about NOW but Wasteland WAS released as freeware on a "Computer Gaming Monthly" disc(Along with an unworkable Wizardry 6, Betrayal At Krondor, Might and Magic 1 and one other game I can't remember off hand) back in 1997-98. I still have that issue somewhere.
I haven't had a chance to play it but Wasteland 2 is coming (to GOG, hopefully) and it'd be interesting to play the predecessor.
Played it on the C-64. I actually finished this game, but i had to call for hints, a.k.a. before the World Wide Web.
I never got the honor of playing Wasteland since it was before my time. Despite it showing it's age graphically from pictures I've seen, I would buy it and play it just to see what all the old school gamers were talking about.
Would be smart to work with the devs of the new Wasteland to get something rolling together.
Now would be the perfect time to release Wasteland, with Wasteland 2 hyped up it'd be sure to sell.
Well I never played the original but as a great fan of fallout games and with wasteland 2 coming out I could give this a try even if it is a bit too old for my tastes :)
Well there is Wasteland coming out via Kickstarter and its funded by like 2000% so ought to be good =)
