System Shock 1 completed
Thank you, GOG
I have been watching and buying from GOG since almost the day it launched and this was the first game I searched for. I still treasure my original CD copy of the game, but now I can keep it and stop worrying about wearing out the disk. I've loved this game for over 20 years and have played it at least once every year since before 2004. This game is probably the main reason I'm now developing games for a living.
I've seen the state of the ownership of the IP and distribution rights and am honestly amazed you've managed to get this republished, I honestly believed I'd never, ever see this day. Thank you GOG for securing this.
THANK YOUUUUUU!
BEAST GAME EVARRR
So GOG just took System Shock Portable with many years of other's work and mods. Asked Kolya to take if off and now GOG sells it for profit.
"Bravo"
Thank you GOG!!!
Been waiting a long time on this. The result is a thus far excellent effort. Looking forward to playing through again. Thanks, GOG.
Thanks GOG!!! You guys came through again!
It's heeeeere!
Happy 21st birthday System Shock

System Shock Portable has been recently killed off by new copyright holders, which is a terrible blow to the community, I would say. Before this happened, System Shock 1 was free to play, labeled in the "Abandonware" category. I myself still have the necessary files on my own laptop. But for the rest who couldn't get a copy, this is most troubling. So I would ask for you people to try and make a negotiation with the people who took away this gem. Besides, who doesn't miss the ominous AI, SHODAN saying "Look at you, Hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone."?
This game is realy cool and DRM free ? CMON GOG team !
Could this be a sign that SS1 is on it's way to GOG?

Never play this game... Only english ?
THIS ONE!!! cd version, of course
I'm close to my annual replay of the game, would appreciate a GOG version with 1280x1024 or 1024x768 capability. This game is remains well ahead of its time and it also remains my favorite video game of all time.
please release system shock 1 with high res graphics and mouse look mod and also with german version!
system shock portable got taken down.
Such an amazing game, please bring this back!
GOG has to release this game. No buts. A MUST.
this game needs a remake
would buy it instantly! Shhh, sshhoo shhooodan
Would be a great addition, and an instant purchase.
I would buy it instantly as well
I would buy it instantly!!!!!!!!!!
Also, great soundtrack for its time.
Pleeeease release this game on gog, I love it and it is still more interesting than many modern games. It has aged very well.
System Shock 2 is amazing game, but SS1 is downright phenomenal in atmosphere and music. Please make it happen, GoG!
I've heard so much about System Shock 2, but I feel like I can't play System Shock 2 before playing System Shock 1!
I hope System Shock will be released some day. With original and redux version like Nightdive Studios did with Strife: Veteran Edition (shame it's still not on GOG)
All I hear about is System Shock 2..........but where is its predecessor?
I also would like to be able to get the original version of System Shock. I never bought it but got it from a friend after he finished the game, I believe it was the CD-ROM version but I am not sure. May have been the Floppy version. Anyway, obviously I had to give it back.
I looked at the portable version: "System Shock Portable", short SSP. It actually includes the original installer. Inside the 7z archive, look for \RES\INST. I haven't tried it yet, but I assue it should work – for those who want the original unmodified version, which should be stable using an official (unmodified) DOSBox on any supported operating system (Linux, OS X, Windows, ...)
So, until SS1 is available on GoG, enjoy either SSP or the original CD-ROM version you get from SSP.
@GoG: you really should do something about this situation! Make SS1 available!
Preferably I hope they release a modded HD version of SSP with Mouselook, HD textures, less crap jump physics, a more climatic cyberspace final boss fight, less unfair enemy accuracy and damage, less assholeish hotwiring puzzles, 3D models instead of the original sprites with a classic mode option for that and the textures, and better, more fun MFD minigames like the original Meat Boy, Sonic Pocket Adventure and the old ZX Elite. (my dad used to play that one all the time when his ZX spectrum's memory reels behaved itself).
I like that this is the top-voted unreleased game on the wishlist now. Even with SSP easily available and having the graphically "improved" sequel already here, people are still dying for the original to be legally available. I couldn't agree more. :-)
Shoot ! I played this intensively 20 years ago :) yep, so long ago. And to me it's even more appealing than second part. The hacking, sense of danger, and cyberpunk atmosphere :)
GOG must base their version on System Shock Portable. Definitely best version available. SS1 CD version with fan-made mods. Contains huge improvement over original resolution and control scheme. I completed the game in 2013 and was well worth it.
Also want System Shock on GOG. pretty please.
Don't make me beg!
I want it. And I do believe that GOG guys can acquire rights for it's distribution if the interest is large enough. I mainly want GOG's distribution because it would mean easy to install and run version compatible with win64.
I don't see why the 2nd game is available, but not the first one :U
Plz
The "new" Portable-Version has so many Patches included...
I want to play the Game like in the old Days and how it was meant by the Developers...
If it is free, why not put the "origin"al Version here on gog?
System shock Portable is a legal available fan release available that has been approved by the original devs and has greatly improved control schemes available including my favorite, one that's closer to Penumbra Overture than Ultima Underworld.
You have no reason not to get it:

Disregard the previous post. Just search for "System Shock Portable". I hope there is a wish for editing options in the Community Wishlist.
Look, [url:here] it is on GOG.
Umm just for your information...the game still has a commercial licence and thus is not legal to distribute with out the licence-holder's permission, be it if they pursue legal action or not. Free distribution is not under fair use nor is it endorsed by the licence holders. System Shock Portable is not abandonware. The term does not constitute any distribution permission of any sort. The game still has a commercial status. Acquiring a physical copy of the game is still the only way to legally own a licence to it.
System Shock was my very first introduction to fps games, it was included with a bundle pack for some adventure game, cant remember which, but the disc was tucked into the pack and I thought I would give it a go. Not a clue for what was waiting for me. Within 15minutes my character was in a badly damaged spaceship and trying to find my way out, all kinds of screaming and background mayhem was happening around me when suddenly the lights go out and I find myself not alone anymore. absolutely scared the beejeebus out of my naive myst playing self. I was hooked from that moment on. would dearly love to hear those lab monkeys chittering again as I run screaming for my life. good times
I'd like GoG to add System Shock also.
I'm pretty sure I've downloaded it somewhere else for free. Would be cool, if GoG did offer it, too. (Either for free or low budget.)
This MUST happen. Why 2 but not 1?
