Firewatch terminer
1200 votes: More than "Bioshock Infinite".
@Grargar: Wonderwul to hear that. I cannot wait for this game to arrive here on GOG.
The game is now in the upcoming tab.
1100 votes: More than "Mass Effect 3"
Maybe they don't care now that the game has sold 500,000 copies on Steam. ;)
How many votes do they consider "settled dust"?
1000 votes: More than "The Witness". :)
What they say.
900 votes: More than "Borderlands" and "ShenMue 3"
for what it’s worth, i also emailed them asking for DRM-free releases (more invbound traffic on the subject can’t hurt, can it?) and whether waiting for the dust to settle is something realistic to wait for.
here’s their answer:
Hey abc,
Thanks for writing in! We're looking into DRM-free platforms, but there's nothing solid to announce just yet. Sorry we don't have more info for you right now!
Best,
xyz
LHQOYMNPO MOVE TO WITCH BOARD PUT RUNE TO DEV NOW!!!!!
800 votes: More than "Portal" and "Dead Space".
I asked the developers if/when Firewatch would be available on GOG. Here is their response:
"Hello Roman,
Thank you so much for your interest in Firewatch!
Right now we're still totally focused on supporting our Steam and PSN presence, but once the dust settles we'll look for other opportunities when it comes to selling the game!
Best,
Erin"
How long are they going to wait for that dust? A few years?
+1 ! please would be a good addition to the gog catalogue !
If SteamSpy is to be believed, the game has just hit 200,000 units sold. That is... sensational to say the least.
True, how is this not here yet?
Campo santo, open it and take my money!
@zeroxxx: Votes in the games category mostly depend on the point in time people become aware of a game, and on how much or how little the developer himself advocates for getting his game on GOG. Firewatch has made an exciting leap these last two weeks, a leap that e.g. AAA games like Tomb Raider (2013) have never experienced. And still GOG can be sure that if they ever get that game, it will sell extraordinarily. :|
Looks like STEAM is trying to choke its competitors.
Even indie games are now STEAM only:-(
Haha, I don't think they'd be interested to publish the game here with only less than 500 votes. xD
In an ideal world, of course Steam shouldn't come first, but it the safest bet money-wise for the dev.
Plus having the energy to research several platforms and work out contracts with all of them is not a thing you do in an afternoon. Stress levels are often high enough as is, not all people handle that the same way.
There's lots of reasons basically, mostly on the business-side, some personal ("oh my god I just want to curl up in a ball an die now that the game is ready to ship").
But none of them "MY EVIL PLAN TO ASSAULT SOME CUSTOMERS' SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT IS FINALLY COMING TO FRUITION, MWUAHAHAHAHAAA!"
That said, I'd love the game here, I try to avoid Steam as best I can too. A little empathy would still be nice, being hostile does not make the platform more attractive to anyone. :)
Yes, even five months ago they said that they'll look into other options post release (see my October comment down below).
I wrote them and received the same reply I've seen elsewhere:
"Thank you so much for your interest in Firewatch!
Right now we're totally focused on making the Steam and PSN launch as smooth as we can make it, but once the dust settles we'll look for other opportunities when it comes to selling the game!"
At least it's not a "there are no plans" or "ha! as if!"... And re. shmeri's comments -- I don't know the logistics behind releasing on multiple platform and how easy / difficult it would be for a small company like them, so I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. We'll see.
And to be clear - even much smaller studios released their games simultaneously in many stores. So there shouldn't be valid reasons for such delays.
> "second class citizens", that's hilarious
It's not. It's insulting and developers should be aware of that. The notion of "treat Steam users first because Steam is big" should be done away with.
I don't think many of us are actually taking it as a personal insult or anything like that -- that's just the internet being the internet -- but I do believe that making the devs aware of the interest among GOG customers is a probably the #1 thing to do if we want to see the game here. I'm also hoping TotalBiscuit and Jesse Cox's videos on it will result in another wave of votes here.
+1 if we get a Lnx release, too
Yeah sure. Mass emailing and taking the lack of a release as a personal insult, all that surely makes developers think twice about not releasing elsewhere. You can voice your disappointment about the lack of a day one release on GOG in a better manner and through better channels, I assure you that.
..."second class citizens", that's hilarious. There's literally zero connection to the matter at hand. Remember, if a developer decides not to release on GOG, the decision can have a whole lot of reasons, most of them not related to customer treatment.
Watched in Jesse Cox youtube channel, this game is awesome.
I want it!
This game is awesome! We need a GOG release!
Dis game suxs
Let developers know that they shouldn't treat GOG users as second class citizens!
I e-mailed the developers, asking specifically for a GOG-version. They just said they were thinking about it "when the dust settles"

Would love to see it here.
Would love to be able to add this game to my gog collection.
Idem as the others.
Reviews are very positive, so I'd buy it now, but...I'll wait for a DRM-free version. This and ADR1FT are my most anticipated games of the year: both atmosferic, story-driven, first person games with fantastic artistic direction.
Pre-ordered on Steam, but willing to buy again on GoG!
+1 to this! firewatch looks like a game that does storytelling way better than average – it shouldn’t be locked away inside steam.
The game looks great. I'd love to be able to buy it on GOG.
I'm holding out on buying this on Steam in hopes they announce (for sure) that it will come to GoG. The art, the story, everything has me pumped for this game and I think it'd be an awesome fit here.
I'd really like to play this game and I refuse to buy stuff on Steam, so please GOG, make this one happen !
A whole lot of new gameplay was shown by IGN, and the developer commented "we still feel like people have seen 0% of the game". www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo8O2h2daE8
The game looks gorgeous ! Loved the art style and dialogues.
For those wondering why we should care about this game, here's a trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXWlgP5hZzc
and several minutes of 17 actual gameplay (don't watch to avoid spoilers) www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5lyHZIzW8A
The game obviously looks beatiful (art by Olly Moss), and in my opinion it promises to blend gameplay and story in avery and interesting way.
I asked the developers on their blog about a DRM-free release, and they answered that they "would want to release it in as many ways as we can, but publishing on Steam is honestly the easiest so we can only promise that on release date at the moment". So, in order to get the game on GOG, we need to show them that there's a request for the DRM-free version. Please, spread the word!
According to the devs, they can initially only guarantee the Steam release at the moment (February 9th, 2016). GOG, time to get proactive!
I have been following the game for a while now, it looks intriguing and beautiful, would be great to have it on GoG!
