Design: getting rid of Windows' frame/layer
I actually found this through a duplicate -- perhaps the title could include something to the effect of "title bar".
i want apps to fit into the windows design. so i prefer the windows style. an option would be okay for me but no deleting.
By the way. Just take a look at the gog.com/galaxy page if you allready haven't been there. There you can see that it looks way better without the windows border.
... and apparently you still can't access *any* menu with Alt+<Letter> or pressing and releasing Alt. Though to be fair, the way it currently is you can't control Galaxy with the keyboard anyway.
Opposed to this one for accessibility and conformance reasons. In the Steam client's DIY UI all standard shortcuts were out (for example, you used to not be able to open the window menu with Alt+Space and they only fixed this recently, over a decade after the client was released). At least make it optional if you ever give in to the bling side, please.
Absolutely needed for sleeker design.
I must agree. I absolutely love the GOG aesthetic but it's completely ruined by the windows bar at the top. At the very least make it invisible when the app is fullscreened (I really dislike seeing the Store/Library/Profile tabs at the top AND the windows bar). If this app ever wants to compete with the other game clients (Origin, Steam, etc) it needs to do this.
As long as the planned Linux port doesn't react badly if I set my window manager to force borders and a titlebar on it, I'll be happy.
Programs should be good platform citizens, and adhere to the visual style set by the operating system's interface guidelines. Removing the window border would mean yet another app implementing it's own style in favour of the parent operating system. If you don't like the window border style in Windows, change it in your display preferences; that's the advantage of everyone being a good platform citizen. Not only that, but the border makes for an immediately recognisable and easily draggable resize handle.
The real issue is that the window bars don't match the client syle at all. Gives it the cheap look of an "I compiled a VS tutorial"-app.
Voted. The UI is quit beautiful - it's a shame that it must be marred by a Windows border.
Of course this would need to be optional, and you'd need to handle dragging.
It could be optional as some here allready have suggested.
Completely disagree. Keep the windows Frame, comply with the standards of the platform you develop for.
Programs that remove the window frame lower their own usability and accessibility. If this has to happen make it an optional, opt-in feature.
Disagree. With a KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid!
Everybody who dislikes how Windows looks: Either get a Mac, get Linux or get WindowBlinds. Yes, the latter actually lets you redesign your windows in Windows. Just don't force your "taste" on everybody else. There are people happy with the default and with the idea that every window looks and works the same!
Good idea! I hate this Windows's frame! ;)
I actually get really bothered when a program thinks it's so special that it has to defy an otherwise consistent user interface. Also keep in mind that while some may find Windows ugly, there are other OSes supported by this program :)
I like that GOG isn't Steam, so I think Galaxy shouldn't copycat Steam's design. +1 to hoping that should this feature ever come about, that it be optional - like Google Chrome's similar feature is on Linux
Should be optional.
Please keep the Windows title bar. This way your program complies with the standard. I hate it to close 10 or 15 programs in a row and move the mouse around for every program because the close button is not always at the same position.
I hate the windows look so much...
I agree. Would look much nicer.
I was just thinking the same thing! +1 to this cause!
+1 The default window chrome is disgusting, please remove it.
I'd hope it'd be optional. Frameless windows can be annoying too.
Agree with this, steam does this, origin does this, why not galaxy?
Maybe a purple frame similar to the background on the galaxy page?
Maybe with the default windows frame as option for people that prefer it that way.
Personally I prefer programs that use the Windows frame. There are programs that integrate it very well and it fits the OS aesthetic a lot better. Perhaps an option would be nice, but something like Steam looks kind of bad no matter which OS it's on.
Like konpeki and DProudmoore says, I too prefer it look and behave like a typical program for the OS in question.
I vote for several options (like Curse Client has) of displaying the window.
I for one feel they should make multiple versions for everyone. Keep the window frame style, make a few more. Let people decide..."Freedom of Choice" right? :)
AGREE! +10
As a user of (still) Windows 7, i do not find the window border ugly at all. But i can see how Windows 8 owners are turned off by those unwieldy larger-than-life Win8-style borders. I guess, a configuration option to turn on/off nicer window borders would be the way to go...
I'm with konpeki. I prefer it looking like a normal app with Windows framing.
Yes!!! +1
Now it looks very ugly! Volvo pls fix!
+1borderless galaxy <3 It gives a little xp feeling on windows 8 lol
Optional borderless window would be fine for me :)
I prefer "normal apps", myself.
Would even be cooler if Galaxy had some kind of Skin-functionality.
But I'm pretty sure the Windows frame won't stay for the final version.
I'm not too bothered with seeing the Windows frame at the moment since this we're in beta, but I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of toolbar akin to Steam's where you have quick access to your friends list, library, settings, et cetera.

I would like to see the toolbar more consistent with the website
That was the first thing that bother me on Galaxy. But I'm sure Galaxy stuff didn't planned this for shipping build so they will handle this one in time.
I want this too. It doesn't look good at all with the Windows frame around it.
Only if it's optional (or Windows only, then I don't care).
I want the client to look and behave like a normal app.
(Also, how would it be 'more functional'?)
