Dead Space (2008)

Best action/horror game made.

I remember first playing this on PC at time of release and could not play beyond the opening hour because the atmosphere was that tense and shit your pants scary. About 3 years later I went back to it and stuck with it and it went on to become my favourite survival horror series in the modern era. The unique aspect of this game is all the information you need to play is on your character model. No HUD or intrusive numbers in your screen corners, health is represented by a RIG; A health bar that runs down the players spine and ammo counts are represented by holographic counters on your weapons. The gameplay itself is visceral and gory, with full dismemberment required to bring down an enemy. The game also has a great story that for players who want to immerse themselves goes beyond the game and into other media like films and books. A truly stunning game even now and recommended to all Survival Horror fans. Hope DS2 and 3 get a GoG release too. On a technical note here are some tips for the PC version. 1. Change your brightness in the settings file to a - value as the game is very bright and the ingame brightness slider does not go low enough to keep the scary atmosphere the game intends. 2. V-sync. Make sure to deactivate the 30fps in game V-Sync option and force an adaptive version through your graphics card to have 60fps. The games physics can have issues if your not at a locked framerate. 3. Have a gampad. The game has mouse control issues that I'm not sure were ever fixed. The game was intended to be played by controller anyway and is the superior experience.
