Ooooffff... Myst... what can I say? It didn't age well at all lol. To be fair, I never played this game when I was a kid, so there is no nostalgia factor with me. With that being said, I did not think this was a good game at all. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because it is such a famous/historical game and it does deserve our respect in that sense. I thought "realMyst" was much better than the original Myst. I would recommend giving that one a try. It improved the graphics and game mechanics a lot in my opinion. But honestly, even that version of Myst was lacking compared to Riven. Riven is where it's at! So in conclusion, give this game a try for curiosity's sake, or revisit it for nostalgia's sake, but don't expect anything amazing.
Civ 3 is the best in the series, period. Civ 2 was great as well, but it didn't age well, and honestly Civ 3 made a lot of improvements over Civ 2 when it comes to some gameplay mechanics. All the Civ games that came after #3, however, got waaaaay too cartoony looking for my tastes. I think Civ 3 has the best "style" of graphics in the series. I've put thousands of hours into Civ 3, and it never gets old. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there are a few annoying things about the AI. The trading system is unbalanced (as in, other countries will want you to give them like 5 things in exchange for one thing). Also, countries get mad at you for no reason, and the game doesn't tell you why. One other annoyance is the randomness to combat. I don't think a spearman or an archer should ever be able to defeat a tank... but it happens sometimes thanks to a random number generator. Besides those few complaints, it's still a very fun and addicting game, and I highly recommend it to anyone that likes 4X strategy games.
Diablo 1 is BY FAR the best Diablo game. It's at least 10 times better than Diablo 2, and at least 100 times better than Diablo 3. Diablo 2 was a slight disappointment, but still playable. Diablo 3, on the other hand, was laughably awful. I got Diablo 1 for Christmas when I was a kid, right when it first came out, and it blew my mind! It was, and still is, one of my favorite video games of all time! I've honestly beaten this game at least a dozen times, and it never gets old. I didn't have the Hellfire expansion when I was a kid. In fact I never even saw a copy of it until now. I've always been immensely curious to try it though... especially because it wasn't even made by Blizzard; it was made by Interplay... very strange. Anyway, it was interesting to play through the expansion, but it doesn't really add any value to the game in my opinion. The game is just as good (if not better) without it. I would even go as far to say that your first playthrough should be without the expansion, that way you can get the original feel! The Hellfire expansion is just one of those strange things that most people never even knew about. In conclusion, if you've never played this game, please for the love of god, PLAY THIS GAME! lol. You won't regret it.
Warcraft 2 is BY FAR the best in the series. It was lightyears ahead of Warcraft 1... Warcraft 3 was an abomination... and WoW just completely lost touch with the dark and foreboding atmosphere of the original story. Not only is Warcraft 2 the best Warcraft, but it's one of the best strategy games ever made, period. I am amazed at how good this game still is, almost 30 years later! Sure, some of that is probably nostalgia talking, but I honestly believe this game is just as good, and just as fun, as it ever was. It's rare to find a game that ages so well. I would recommend everyone play this game at least once!
I gave Warcraft 1 three stars for the sake of nostalgia... but wow, this game did NOT age well lol! It was still amazing to re-play it for the first time in almost 30 years though! I'm surprised it worked on my modern PC so well! Warcraft 2 (one of the best strategy games ever made) was a HUGE step up from this game, not just graphically, but mechanically as well. The LACK of future gameplay mechanics (such as attacking anything en route to a location using the "A" button) make Warcraft 1 a frustratingly difficult game, especially when compared to #2. I was never able to beat Warcraft 1 as a child, but I finally beat it for the first time about a month ago! I don't think I will ever have the desire to re-play it, however. Once was enough lol. In conclusion, it's probably not worth playing #1, unless you're doing it out of nostalgia or curiosity.
