Age of Wonders 3

Divine

Been playing this on Steam because I had bought it many years ago before Gog. I enjoy Age of Wonders 3 so much that I bought it here again to ensure I'll never lose it. Close to flawless - the main flaw I can point to the game is its publisher, Paradox, with it's very abusive T&C. In that vein, the game start includes some kind of delay even if we select "Sign in as guest" to play offline only - quite likely an Internet request which who knows what is doing: maybe sending info from us back to them (benign telemetry or?); maybe checking if there's new (even more abusive) T&C to then stop the game from working until we accept them again (I think this has already happened once); maybe some kind of check which if the company and servers go down it will stop working permanently? Who knows...

Anomaly 2

Very decent

Played it while I used Steam - quite decent game. Not a fantastic game, though it was good enough that I enjoyed it quite a lot to the point of considering buying it here on Gog (though not good enough to make me purchase it again).

Terraria

Just superb

Funny, I kept being recommended this game for years yet it never really grabbed my attention until one day - can't quite remember what changed, I think it was because I found out it was one of the 5 highest rated (by users, not reviewers) games of all times. This game got me hooked like .. can't remember any other (ex: starting 11h30 and only forcing myself to leave at 23h30 and realize I had forgotten to eat anything at all). The run-through and character buildup were absolutely majestic - as I increased in skill and equipment it started exploding in fun. The game ran absolutely flawlessly on Ubuntu Linux 22.04. I remember that the graphics were really poor at first but after some time it became second nature and I no longer noticed it. I also remember very well that the recipes were VERY frustrating - often playing the game was playing 2 games: Terraria + browse for recipes and how to get the ingredients. Very oddly, though - considering how much I enjoyed my 1st run-through, the maps being randomly generated and so many users reporting many 100s of hours played - I was expecting to have many glorious run-throughs, yet unfortunately that didn't happen. New run-thoughs didn't bring me enough new excitement (having Copper and Lead instead of Tin and Iron is meaningless) and the enjoyable slower and simpler early game was no longer appealing for someone who had gotten used to the more advanced style of late game. I wish I could go back and relive all that fantastic joy I lived in the 80h of my 1st run-through. Fingers crossed we'll have a new Terraria game or expansion.

Space Pirates and Zombies

Very good «poor» game

7/10 The game is noticeably poor, though a complete game, very well implemented and it brings fresh ideas/genre. "Poor" but not a sandbox, not half-baked, not half-complete, no bugs. Recommend it to those who like side-scrolling shooters and ActionRPGs - gave me some 30~80h of good fun. # Technically After 1 full run-through I haven't experienced any crash or even any noticeable quirk. My only minor complaint is the Alt-Tab didn't work. I ran on Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) - Linux is usually a 2nd grade citizen yet even here (mostly) everything ran without a glitch. # Art Graphics are only decent to look at but do their job quite well - things are easy to distinguish and good-looking enough. The menus are quite functional, although once again nothing glorious. The portraits .. well, close to pathetic, actually. A complaint, the System menu was rather annoying, as it always opens zoomed into the middle - a good example of small'ness of the game's production value. # Gameplay A mix of a classic 2D scrolling shooter with Action RPG. I had great fun navigating, fighting the battles and evolving the equipment and tech tree. Oh, the joy of using a new larger ship or new devastating laser!!! The game is balanced between fights and resource gathering (much more focused on fights). The difficulty balance also looked well achieved. Some things felt like they could be grandeur, like a fixed 4 levels of equipment (though makes the balancing much easier). Can be played many different ways, from relaxed spewing missiles/drones from a distance, or action'ny with an agile ship while leaving the larger ships to AI. # Story This was a very odd one. I felt the game was kind of cheeky/humorous (space zombies?) but turned out it had a rather serious tone and .. even quite dark. And I have to say, the overall story arch was actually good - this caught me off guard. The writing, though, felt very poorly implemented and it even spoils the overall tone/story arch.

Torchlight II

Superb - an absolute gem!

This game is a truly superb and magnificent aRPG. I'm playing it yet again in 2021, after 150~200h of gameplay earlier on Steam. The game does NOT demand us to agree to any T&C. The game works flawlessly on Ubuntu Linux 18 LTS and 20 LTS - I don't think I have ever had a crash, ever, and don't even remember ever seeing a graphical glitch (how many AAA productions can brag of such!?). The aRPG mechanics are flawlessly implemented: - the 4 different characters are interesting (although 1 is off "norm"); - the skill trees are very interesting and fun to explore the different viable strategies; - the loot is just right; - the action is excellent; - the animations and sounds are excellent; - the enemies are excellent; - the artwork is excellent (though is noticeably «old» by now - and is steampunk, which not everyone prefers); - the story is a bit meh .. which is quite ok for me (I watch movies when I want to see a story). Can't say anything less good about this game .. except that the devs got fed up with aRPGs after Diablo 2, Torchlight 1 and Torchlight 2, and decided to not create a Torchlight 3 :'(.

Attack of the Earthlings

Excellent game

Excellent game. Loved the witty and dark humour of the game. The game is a bit short and quite simplistic, felt a bit «definitely not AAA game». That's the only reason I gave it 4*. Worked flawlessly on my Ubuntu Linux 20.04. I did NOT have to accept any abusive Terms and Conditions to play the game.

Tesla vs Lovecraft

Excelent but bruttaly hard

The company 10tons has mastered this genre of game and this one appears to me the pinnacle of that genre (I have 2 others from 10tons). While the others 2 games appear gameplay games only, this one is appears a very, very polished and very well built game. There's plenty to keep us entertained throughout the campaign. Warning! Beware, though, that there's only 1 path to the campaign and I found it quite easy to become stuck at any specific level and, thus, unable to progress any further. I literally stopped playing the game because I got stuck at a specific level that, for the life of me, can't pass. Still, even despite the above, I thoroughly recommend the game and do not regret buying it - I even bought an expansion.

Immortal Redneck

Decent game

Decent game. Hate the "redneck" style but I can't complain - I knew that before I bought the game. I definitely recommend watching the videos with some attention and consider whether the style is pleasant or too unpleasant for you. Worked flawlessly on my Ubuntu Linux 20.04.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Superb game

This game is superb at its genre - I can't find any fault with it. Love that we can have voices in Japanese (with subtitles in English) - makes the adventure more immersive, feels more authentic. Played it in Ubuntu Linux and it has worked flawlessly. The game did NOT require me to accept any abusive Terms & Conditions to play.

Wasteland 3 - Deluxe Edition

Awesome game

Wasteland 3 is superb and it was a great pleasure to play it from start to finish. If there's a couple of things I'd complain about they would be: - I really wish the game was less Redneck'ish; - After a decent length .. the game ends and I wish there was an expansion or sequel or something. I'm struggling quite a bit to get back to being engrossed by another game after Wasteland 3... Was completely worth the purchase, one of my best buys recently. Played it in Ubuntu Linux - worked mostly flawlessly.
