Dragon Ruins II

Fun byte sized dungeon crawler

This game offers several improvements over the first game. It has multiple dungeons arranged under 'quests' that can be repeated (and at least most dungeons offer several different quests for the same layout). There are more characters/classes to choose from, and some gear this time. It is nice to just go in and do a run or two when you have a bit of time, but at the same time it is not a game that is max 2 hours and then done.

Dungeon Tycoon

Fun and addictive

This is a fun casual game. You can let each day run and watch the little warriors come in and tackle your dungeon, with building between days. Instead of trying to keep adventurers out or kill them all, you are more running a dungeon theme park where there are no lawyers to come after you for killing visitors. You need to let at least half of the visitors survive, with the overall goal being to make a lot of money selling potions to them. I'd like to see more expansion of the game, like allowing more monsters in the game and a bigger monster roster. Hopefully there will be some additional patches and/or DLC for that. Also bigger dungeon sizes. But still for $15 I'm getting a lot of fun out of it.

The Thaumaturge

Interesting game set in an alternate history

I enjoyed this game. It has some real historical characters and events, intermingled with fiction. As a result, I picked up some interest in learning more about the time and place. Pros: -immersive environments -interesting characters -interesting stories -unusual mechanic with salutors Cons: -game is crash-happy. This reduced with patching, but still happens usually about once per play session -it would be nice if you had an toggle-able aura for perception. Instead, you have to right click repeatedly -often going to a location or person is just done by right clicking as there are not in-game clues to find it on your own Late game choices are affected by some decisions made elsewhere. Some people that I figured were irrelevant to later game may turn out relevant, so choices made had an impact I was not expecting.

Cyberpunk 2077

Fun actiony game

I hadn't played before, so playing with 2.0 and Phantom Liberty is my first run at it. I've not made it far enough to be into PL yet, but I've played quite a bit and am having a lot of fun. The game plays like what I would have expected from the game, so never dealt with missing features of the past. The game looks pretty, and performance is generally OK. I built a new computer earlier this year, but didn't have tons of money so using a $600 at-the-time graphics card (6800XT); the 4080s and such were out of my price range but I'm sure they perform much better. Anyway, quests, loot, skills, some spy-like missions, a bit of stealth, a good amount of action, and some NPCs that end up being creepy due to their skills and movements. I'm enjoying the ride.

Sudocats

Cute Sudoku puzzle game

If you like doing Sudoku puzzles, this should be a no brainer. It is Sudoku puzzles, but with nine cute cartoon cats substituted for numbers. There is a daily puzzle also which changes, on top of the included puzzles. The music is nice, and you can mute it if you prefer to listen to your own music. I like that the hint system allows for up to 9 notes/hints.

DYSMANTLE

A fun, simple, zombie apocalypse

This game has been a lot of fun. The gathering and exploring keep me curious about what is "over there". It reminds me somewhat of Dying Light, but cartoony and isometric--kind of a DL combined with a bit of a Torchlight feel. There is a lot to do, and it is perfectly doable to play in short sessions or chunks. The game is more casual that some survival games, with a number of options like different languages (I only play in English so can't speak to if they are accurate tho), color blind mode, removing some screenshake, rebindable keyboard controls, controller support with remappable controls. For the price there is a lot here--even coop, though I've not tried that yet.

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos

A fun dungeon-based game

I enjoyed playing this game. The entirety is in a dungeon that has shops, so it reminded me vaguely of Ultima Underworld and other games in general atmosphere. Combat is fun, and this is the only turn based isometric RPG that I've seen that allows overwatch as an action, which I liked and want to see in more games of this style. There are a few different difficulty options, and the easy one was plenty easy for someone like me who likes playing games, but doesn't have a lot of skill (nor the free time to gain the skill). This game really calls for a New Game Plus mode, which it doesn't have. The possibility for it is even baked into the story. I ran into a few minor bugs or glitches that don't affect gameplay much. For instance every once in a while when I'd launch the game it would crash on launch. Every time though it launched right after when I'd try again. There were a few other things like attacks missing that should have hit or something in combat, can't remember, but it wasn't too often. One warning though for those with misophonia: the elf's heal ability is a kiss that does a loud smooching sound three times in a row. I wish I could have found a mod to silence that, or at least reduce it to one smooch. I ended up taking my headphones off every time I used that ability. Overall, I enjoyed it and would like to play more (expansion or sequel). Just hopefully with a mod or option to silence the elf's smooches.

Murder by Numbers

Fun casual title

This game is a split between a visual novel and nonogram puzzles, with a heavier lean toward VN. There are four cases, with characters and events that recur in later ones, and some overarching plot elements. I thought it was fun and liked the characters. I do hope to see a sequel. When the game is complete, there is a little bit of extra story after the credits, plus some freestanding nonogram puzzles. One negative: you must click to move through the dialogue in the VN portions. It would have been nice if you could press a key like spacebar instead of clicking all the time, to make it easier on the hands. The other negative is bigger: when doing nonogram puzzles, there is no Undo button like most other puzzle games have. Therefore, if you are filling or X'ing out a long line and the cursor jumps to the neighboring line, you will have to hope you remember what was supposed to be there and what was not. An Undo button would be a big help. Still, I felt for the money paid I got a lot of enjoyment, and will likely replay this again in the future.

GreedFall

Enjoyable game

I enjoyed my time with this game. The setting is one that is not so common in RPGs, adding some freshness. The story is interesting overall, and many of the key players have hidden sides that might be more malicious or reasonable than you first expect. It seems most of the inspiration for this game was taken from Witcher 3, though it does not have the length and scope of that game. Still, it is enjoyable for what it is. The game is semi-linear, with some backtracking which can be a little annoying. Overall, I recommend the game.
