Chants of Sennaar

Not so marvelous as overhyped

I've grabbed this game because of its theme and the reviews claiming it is brilliant and a must for anyone puzzle positive and more so linguistic. I have a talent for languages and understanding from patterns and symbolism. I have a thing for figuring out grammar and the meaning of idioms etc. in languages. I thought I'd be a perfect match of a target audience. Well... it turned out this game is overhyped. The puzzles are pretty meh and the linguistic part about it is laughable. You get very little clues based on which you are supposed to make assumptions and for some obscure reason (probably not to make it too easy) the clues make you think in a very obvious way while the result is many times incorrect and you have to rely on hit and miss combinations. Yes, hit and miss because that is many times what this game is about. You don't really have to understand anything, it's a matter of trying to try hit the combination and viola all of a sudden the correct one will lock in and make you a power fantasy linguist. What a laugh.

System Shock® 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

Oops we did it again...

Clueless business people 25 years ago: "Hey you devs, just implement MULTIPLAYER mode in this immersive simulation of a survivalist horror isolation in a space ship infested with bio weapon and a crazy AI. YOU HAVE TO! JUST DO IT." ... Turns out to be a completely pointless nonsense... Clueless business people 25 years later: "Hey you devs, in this remaster we have to do it again, because this time, it would make perfect sense." Anyway if you were living in a cave for the last 25 years not realizing there is this unique masterpiece that was so ahead of its time immersion-wise, story wise, design-wise, atmosphere-wise and audio-wise and still being better than most games trying to imitate it then you have a chance to wake up now.

Very unexpected turnaround

First time I see it's not the devs being abused by the publisher. This is actually the opposite scenario where dev somehow got publisher's backing to release utter garbage of a junkware.

Punch Club 2: Iron Fist

Passable

A meh DLC that doesn't really hold up to the quality of base game. Only two new audio tracks, quite little content, really cringe dialogues between robot and AI and not very polished game mechanics. Only for hardcore fans who are really only into trying new fight techniques and combinations.

Punch Club 2: Fast Forward

Brillinat pnc sim game with rich story

Apart from being a bit grindy sim game the story and parodic retro pop-cultural references are top notch. The sequel is more content rich and diverse compared to the first one so the grind blends nicely and you won't finish the game in just a few hours. While the first game took place directly in the 90's the sequel is 1-2 generations ahead in a bit cyberpunk-ish future with neurochips, robots and social credit system. Some reviewers are complaining about unbalanced combat with cheating AI... I didn't have that much trouble, maybe due to more recent version. The combat is indeed different and rather bland in the first chapter, but once you unlock various schools and special techniques it becomes way more strategic compared to the first game. No one ultimate build for all fights, you need to study enemy and align your techniques also as opponent changes his techniques between rounds. Audio and visuals - artistic heaven. I just miss the CRT filter from the first game. I love the game as someone who lived through 80's and 90's. There's so much relatable and lovable here. And you don't need anything else than mouse to play the game which is also something I value.

Punch Club 2: Complete Edition

Complete brilliance

Apart from being a bit grindy sim game the story and parodic retro pop-cultural references are top notch. This bundle includes the robot league DLC which makes the content rich game even more diverse so the grind blends nicely and you won't finish the game in just a few hours. While the first game took place directly in the 90's the sequel is 1-2 generations ahead in a bit cyberpunk-ish future with neurochips, robots and social credit system. Punch Club Deluxe Edition

Underrated due to publisher decisions

The version on GOG here as of today is 1.31 which is THE LATEST AVAILABLE. Including Czech localization as NOT listed on GOG store page for whatever incompetent reasons. This game deserves so much better rating. All the downvotes are majorly because of publisher boycotting updates on GOG as an "anti-piracy" effort like if this was some kind of solution that doesn't do even more harm. Actually most games are plagued by delayed updates on GOG but this one in particular got review bombed for it. GOG's ignorance towards transparency when it comes to visibility of the release version even more harms the industry but who am I to tell "employees" how to do their work competently. The game is retro-inspired point-n-click sims management with quite decent parodic story from the 80's 90's that is further developed in even better sequel. This is one of those artistic gems that are worth every bit of the invested money and time.

Leisure Suit Larry

GOG fails hard AGAIN

The description page to this bundle of products is unacceptably vague not even listing which games are included. There are various versions of these games you know, for example LSL6 has VGA and SVGA version. You have to pay first to find out there is no SVGA version included and actually nowhere to be found on GOG. The incompetence of GOG here is yet again level incredible.
