It's fantastic. Has all the hallmarks of the original games. Even a lot of the same weapons which makes it feel very familiar. The cultural references are hilarious. Gameplay is perfect. I noticed some subtle changes to the interface that make the game more fun to play in a lot of ways than the originals. For instance ammo/inventory management is streamlined, and movement during combat doesn't require you to stand up, then run, then go back to prone. It just automatically does what will cost the fewest APs. Really great game, hope we see a lot of DLCs.
I did love Two Worlds for what it was, but it had some glaring flaws. TW2 is quite an achievement and super fun to play. The story and acting is SO MUCH BETTER than the original. I have some gripes about the user interface, but they're minor. I don't think anyone could really compare the original game to Elder Scrolls and be taken seriously. But TW2 is up to snuff. Protagonist reminds me often of Geralt. Fantastic game. Must play for any RPG fan.
I’ve tried so many HOMM3 clones over the years and regularly been disappointed. Wartales is the one that finally does it justice. It’s a must play! I love so much about the game but I do have to call out how perfect the battle music is. Whoever made that - thank you!!!
i've now played through the whole game and don't really see what the fuss is about. the chernobyl scifi wasteland setting is really cool, but gameplay is uninspiring. you just shoot stuff, get boring quests from NPCs, and occasionally upgrade equipment. very standard fare. it sometimes flirts with horror survival which is nice. it's open-ish world, but you basically only encounter each territory one time, which makes it feel surprisingly linear. the acting and story are both distractingly bad. it's just a grindy shooter. many other games more deserving of your time.
I'm really not clear how this can be free. The voice acting is fantastic. The characters and story are extremely well-written. Gameplay is obviously great. There is a lot to love. Put this up there with the best of them. Still waiting for TES6 but this will help tide me over.
As soon as you think things are going well, a big chicken can come in and inadvertently send you straight to jail, where your belongings will be confiscated, and there is no escaping with them. At least that's where I found myself in this awesome sandbox adventure. It's a punishing experience. I had so far devoted maybe 15 hours to the game, clawing my way to some halfway decent gear in the game's initial map area. I had already died-by-chicken several times and often lost some amount of gear or hard fought coin along the way. Gameplay is fantastic, definitely cousin to Morrowind. While it has a lot less lore and no attributes to develop, it still scratches a similar itch. There's no GPS. There's no going back to a prior save (except, mercifully, there is). There's far less interaction with NPCs, far fewer side quests. But the creatures you battle and the scenery are incredible. I've basically lived by the same principle that exists in nature - if it looks dangerous, it probably is. I have run from as many battles as I've engaged. I lured a horrific glowing deer skull beast near several giant pistol shrimp, and marveled as it ripped them to pieces. I decided to be thankful I could outrun it and come back to fight it another day. As for prior autosaves, there is a save folder within the game files that you can delete if you've truly gotten yourself into a mess. I'm hoping never to use it again, but finding that cheat did prevent me from totally shelving this game.
10/10 for the visuals. This is a delightfully twisted corner of hell you get to wander. I'll never forget seeing little demon babies used as mortar in an infernal bricklayer's wall. SO COOL! Everything about this game visually is amazing. The tough part is sticking with the gameplay long enough to see it.
After about 8 hours into this game I don’t understand what people see in it. You can climb monsters? Who cares? It feels like I’m just hacking and slashing in a mall arcade. This is closer to Gauntlet than it is Elder Scrolls. Story is dumb. Characters are dumb. Inventory management is dumb. All the controls are sloppy. Even exiting the game is dumb. It’s about as open world as KOTOR so idk how it even gets called open world. Nothing about this game warrants comparisons to ES or Witcher. I’m writing this review as I’m sitting in the jail in the main town, where I landed due to the incredible ease of punching an NPC immediately after ending “dialogue” with them. (There is no dialogue, only NPC monologue.) Save your money for quarters at the mall.
this game has it all, and has been the standard to which i've held (and been disappointed by) every other RPG. morrowind is incredibly rich and compelling and i don't know why other game studios don't try to rip it off more. it's the kind of game that hooks me from the start. i love the mysterious beginnings bethesda titles always have. in this one you're an anonymous prisoner aboard a ship, and the story begins unfolding and developing immediately. the gameplay is absolutely perfect. while in later bethesda titles, you could just fast travel everywhere, in morrowind you still had to travel the hard(ish) way - by foot, silt strider, and teleportation by the mages guild. there are countless destinations you can only reach by walking. i'll admit, when i played oblivion & skyrim i was relieved to be able to fast travel. but after revisiting morrowind again recently, i find it so much more absorbing to have to walk and run around and actually listen to directions NPCs give me. here is an incomplete list of things that are just perfect about this game: ~character creation & subsequent relation to leveling up - if you are unfamiliar with the mechanics of elder scrolls games, you might sink 10 hours into this game before realizing you need to start over with a more finely tuned character. that may sound terrible, but it speaks to how incredible the character creation is. ~rich storyline in the elder scrolls mythos ~easy, compelling gameplay & controls ~awesome graphics for its time ~item, spell, and enchantment creation - limitless in scope, absolutely stunning and such a thrill to finally compile the "perfect" suit of armor that you can tailor based on your character's strengths and weaknesses. ~replayability - playing as different kinds of characters will completely change gameplay and quest availability ~open world - absolutely necessary in my book to be considered a great RPG bottom line - if you think you love RPGs, you must play this game.
while much smaller and simpler, there is no doubt this game was made by fans of ultima vii. a hoe of doom? a character named wislem? multiplying green slime monster? it is kind of quick and dirty (you can beat it in about 6 hours), but really cute. it's got references to other fantasy pantheons as well (like lord of the rings). gameplay is elegant and easily controlled with just the mouse. the characters are hokey and silly (a pirate crab, really?), and there is a ton of dialogue that i opted to skip through, but it's forgivable. it basically just made me want someone to pick up where the ultima series left off. this game shows it's possible and could still be really compelling and fun to play. open world would have been nice but can't have everything, right? definitely a worthwhile little adventure RPG.
