If you like macro and planning more than boring micro management of units, this is the game for you. Also I'm a newbie but still able to finish a skirmish against AI under 20 mins so it's good for a quick match. But you also have the option to have a 2 hours epic battle by playing against harder AI on bigger maps.
The action part is great with lots of tools to use and they do make you feel so powerful as you progress through the game! There are also some good endgame contents like dungeons and bosses which for me is essential to an action game. However, there are some design choices that I am personally not a fan of: -Too many map puzzles that drag the pacing of the game. -Too much walking that makes the game like a walking simulator sometimes. If you like puzzles and enjoying beautiful scenery walking around then those are not a big problem but if you want pure action you will get frustrated quite often by the pacing.
